This is my second pregnancy and I'm about 8wks. I was referred to the midwives by my doctor about 3wks ago but I haven't heard anything yet. I can't remember how far along I was before I saw anyone last time. When did you ladies first see a midwife?

10 weeks. I'd be more concerned about making sure that you have your 12 week dating scan appointment though, to be honest. I was told that I could see one of the GPs if I had any concerns before my official midwife appointment.

16 weeks for first midwife appointment in my area, but I'd already been booked in for a 12 week scan before then. As Mrs Tittlemouse says, find out from the GP where your dating scan will be and hassle them till you get an appointment booked in.

I was seen at 6 weeks! Only bceause I didn't know my dates though

10 weeks round here, and mw booked the 12 week scan at that appt. Last time round (2 yrs ago) it was around 12 wks as they didn't offer the earlier scan.

I contacted the mw team directly, didn't bother with GP this time.

12 weeks last time and booked for 12 weeks this time. Both times my referral got lost in the post though so I had to phone and sort it out myself. I'd check the same hasn't happened to you.

6 weeks here to same had date problems

LadyOfWaffle · 19/06/2008 15:43

15 weeks first time, about 6/7 this time (maybe earlier) as problems with dates.

21 weeks +3. GP told me I was pregnant when a routine blood test came back, had dating scan showing me as 14+3 [pleasant shock!!!], then back to GP to send forms to hospital and there's a month wait for appts.
I did ask if I could have an earlier appt seeing as first baby and 16 weeks already sounded like it should be a priority, but that was the priority appt!

Midwives told me GP should have faxed the forms and got me to phone immediately and not told me I wasn't allowed to book an appt myself. Luckily all is well (28 weeks) and the midwives were lovely when I phoned in a panic at 19 weeks.

Thankyou everyone. I shall get on the phone and try and get my scan sorted. Notcitrus- That must have been a shock! Quite good though that you missed the long wait until the first trimester was over. I'm just desperate to get to 12 weeks and actually see a baby! It doesn't feel quite real until then.

Mumnanny1 - I have to recommend blissful ignorance as a way to avoid worrying all through the first trimester, especially as loads of miscarriages run in my family.

The really embarrassing thing is I was trying to get pregnant for years, and have a doctorate in embryology!

There is a referral system here whereby you get a telephone appointment to make booking in appointment with MW, the 12 week scan.

16 wk appointment only if you are having double test here, then 20 wek scan followed by mw.

I don't think regular antenatal checks really start here until 24 weeks, but lots of areas are different.

I think ringing GP to check referral has been made is a good idea.

BTW- this is my 3rd pg in4 years and each time the systems and care had been altered!
