Hideous reflux - any tips?

Am 25 weeks, so quite a bit to go. Experiencing really hideous reflux, especially in the evenings/night. The last two nights I woke up after a few hours choking on it. Was genuinely horrible.

I have...

  • propped pillows under my mattress to try and elevate it so I'm not lying flat
  • using extra pillows
  • stopped eating within 3-5 hours of going to bed/lying down
  • take Renee. Have also got gaviscon liquid but my goodness it is disgusting
  • I'm on a pretty strict diet as everything seems to make me feel nauseous (still!) and when I looked for foods to avoid reflux most of it seems 'safe'. Coffee and oj were the only real red flags, both of which I have in small quantities with breakfast (coffee also watered down). So was hoping that wasn't going to be the thing causing 11pm reflux!
  • someone recommended camomile tea but that made it worse!
  • Drinking milk offers some short term relief, but doesn't last long.

Anything else I could try at this stage?

What time of day do you take it? I know it's meant to be more effective in the morning but I take mine a couple of hours before bed and find they work better for me that way as I'm only on one 20mg dose a day ( I'm not pregnant) also make sure you take them whole & with water.

@ProudSeal @DiamondRBD this is what I did! Had 2.5 blissful weeks and then it came back with a vengeance. Went back to the GP and she basically said as the baby gets bigger it'll force the oesophagus more and more (makes sense) plus relaxin won't be helping.

@chattyness I was taking it in the morning, appreciate your reply. Doctor has now upped my dose to am and pm, otherwise I would have given it a try!

Well I hope it works for you OP, that burning is so bloody painful. You could also try a dry biscuit like rich tea or a dry cracker something like that to help soak up the excess acid, keep some in your bedside drawer so you don't have to get up.

I had this horrendously with first pregnancy.

With second Xonvea anti sickness had just become available and I stayed on a half tablet until the end of my pregnancy.

I think that does something to neutralise things as it was there but never a problem like the first time.

Might be worth trying. It’s one of the only licensed drugs for use in pregnant women and that made me really comfortable trying that.

Not sure I would be comfortable about omeprozale. It’s a serious drug I wouldn’t take lightly.
