Hi everyone older potential mum here, 8 weeks last Saturday, however began bleeding, 2 small clots and cramps, Tuesday, had scan on Friday they said baby was measuring 5-6 weeks so couldn’t detect heartbeat, returning in 2 weeks, came home and lost some more fluid potentially clots which could have been from having the internal scan aswell, blood etc may have already been there, really scared and constantly worrying don’t know what to think! I’m 46 😢

If you’re sure of your dates and are definitely meant to be 8 weeks and only measuring 5-6 weeks and no heartbeat that isn’t a good sign unfortunately. If you weren’t tracking ovulation and you think it’s possible you are only 5-6 weeks then it could be fine. But in all honesty if it was me I’d be preparing for the worst. (Sorry. I’ve been through this multiple times so I know it’s hard).

Im going to quite honest. Based on what youve said above , My advice is to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
I hope someone can offer some more positive advice of a similar experience.

A scan should definitely not cause you to pass clots like that .A probe is only slightly inserted into your vagina, they dont put it in deep. You mentioned you had already been passing clots prior to the scan. I think the timing is coincidental . Sometimes a blood sac can be present but it shouldn't be causing you to pass clots and they can see this on the scan. Its one of things they will specifically check for during pregnancy scan. Unfortunately, once a baby stops developing, bleeding doesnt always happen immediately. Some times it can take weeks.
My advice is to wait for the rescan.
At 8 weeks a heart beat should be detected and heard.
Could they at least see the flicker of cardiac activity? This activty should absolutely be seen at 8 weeks. It can be seen from 5.5 weeks -6 .
To not have any cardiac activity at 8 weeks and to be measuring possibly 2 weeks behind on top of that, im afraid is not a good sign. Are you absolutely sure your 8 weeks? Could you possibly be earlier?
Ive had multiple loses and the wait between scans is a lonely frightening process

I’m sure they said the baby is too small to detect a heart beat as although I’m 8 weeks baby is only 5-6 weeks measurements, they could see gestational sac and yolk said I’d need to be rescanned in two weeks, I think sadly I’m clutching at straws, I’m sorry fir your losses 😢

Is there any chance you could be earlier than 8 weeks? Were you tracking ovulation? When was your last period and when did you first get a positive test?

I should be exactly 8 weeks from last Saturday, I’m perimenopausal but don’t think that makes a difference, I know when I did a pregnancy test it said 3 weeks plus I knew I was 4 then, I feel so sad and still have a week to go 😢
