I mean like red bull but obviously something not full of caffeine and sugar etc. Like an energy boost? Something natural perhaps?

Don't have an answer but would love to know if someone did. I've missed Red Bull more than alcohol so far!

In pregnancy you generally need to have protein in your drinks as well as an energy boost. Ovaltine is quite good for getting calories as well as vits and protein. But not exactly good for a summer day.

Fruit juice?

MrsBadger · 18/06/2008 21:08

sugar is fine in pregnancy

Lucozade Sport is pretty good

dgomez · 19/06/2008 13:08

Sugar is not fine in pregnancy, and all these fizzy drinks are packed with sugar , try and drink them in moderation and prefer water ( although is boring, I know) and herbal tees ( fennel , mint, fruits) .

MrsBadger · 19/06/2008 13:25

why is sugar not fine in pregnancy?
(in moderation, and in food, obv, not in heaped tablespoons)

and don't give me the 'it congests the pelvis' Gentle Birthing Method-type lines

mad4mybaby · 19/06/2008 14:40

how does sugar congest the pelvis??

May have to make visit to health shop see if they come up with anything

MrsBadger · 19/06/2008 14:47

It doesn't, that was my point

there's a 'holistic' book called the Gentle Birthing Method that recommends a very strict diet in pg (no wheat, no sugar, no dairy etc) with absolutely no scientific basis.

I wouldn;t trust the assistants in Holland & Barratt to know what was actually safe in pregnancy.

If you're low in energy generally have you thought about an iron supplement like Spatone to address the root cause rather than the symptoms?

mad4mybaby · 19/06/2008 15:47

not heard of that, where do you get it and how do you take it? I had another thread going about how i was feeling in the afternoon, tired, heavy, no energy no appetite. Need something to help pick me up, like red bull!

MrsBadger · 19/06/2008 15:48

Boots - they're sachets of liquid you dilute in water or juice.

mad4mybaby · 19/06/2008 15:51

does it do any harm if your having enough iron already?

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 19/06/2008 15:55

no, it's just iron-rich water. Have you seen your mw recently to get your iron levels tested?

Alternatively, you can try the healthly-eating low GI lark (yawn) for a natural energy boost (oats and the like).

mad4mybaby · 19/06/2008 16:05

yeah had my bloods done and fine. Guess just the crapness of being pg! Just trying to find some help!

when do you go on matleave?
an afternoon nap is the cure to many of the ills of pregnancy...

mad4mybaby · 19/06/2008 16:30

im a SAHM have a 2 yr old. try to nap but can only really fall asleep after 2.30pm which is when ds wakes up! Do sit with my feet up when hes in bed though!

TotalChaos · 19/06/2008 16:31

I was recommended plain old full fat milk by the mw! Otherwise would have thought bog standard lucozade.

FrannyandZooey · 19/06/2008 16:34

I take this
it's fab

mad4mybaby · 19/06/2008 16:34

its strange but drinking milk even in cereal makes me sick! It also made my ms worse which only just got over. Ds is allergic to it and i wonder if this is what my ms so bad back then as i didnt notice it like i have now.. may well have the same with this one! I really could go a can of red bull but wouldnt do it because of all the crap in there esp when im trying so hard (honest!) to eat healthy!

OP posts:
jellyforbrains · 19/06/2008 20:47

I did drink lucozade during the morning sickness days in this pregnancy. It helped with the nausea and tiredness, but limited it to a small bottle or less every day. Not had any in ages now but am planning on putting some in my labour bag.

mad4mybaby · 19/06/2008 21:07

hmm thinking back to last pg, maybe lucozade tablets?
