Hi ladies, just some background info. I had an early MC in October last year. I found out I am pregnant again. I did an early detection test so found out before due period. I keep having period like cramps that feel like my period is going to start. Should I be worried, or consult a dr? Is this feeling normal?

When did you get your positive test? Is the pain particularly bad?

It’s really common to have cramping, I even used tampons before because I thought I was going to come on and was on holiday, that experience is now an almost 14 years old DS!
the biology is that the egg is fertilised as it’s rolling down the fallioian tube, it keeps going until it hits the uterus and start embedding into the endometrium, this causes pains and cramping in some women. It can also cause spotting. Over the weeks, the fertilised egg keeps growing and burying into the uterus, even little vili burrow in, this creates the mother-foetus connection and later the placenta. So just remember it’s quite a process going on down there so you will feel some pains etc.
with regard to the MM, I’ve had more than my fair share so I hear you, I also remember being so very worried too, but I, like most other mums to be, now have my kids … you’ll still worry, just about different things 😉🤣
good luck, and remember the biology, it can hurt! As your uterus grows bigger you’ll start getting shooting stabbing pains … again, it’s ligaments this time causing pain, just chat to your MW when you go

There’s not really anything a GP can do.

Do you have an EPU near you? Check what they need for referral, many are self referral. If so, you’d fill in the form that you’ve had a previous miscarriage and are in pain and they might call you in to check via a scan from 6 weeks.

Even if you go private, it’s a waiting game until 6-7 weeks because scanning at 5 weeks is not particularly helpful.

Cramping is common across early pregnancy and miscarriage so it doesn’t really mean anything at all, but I do understand you are worried. You just need to wait a few weeks and then you can either get seen by EPU or a private scan really.
