Baby measuring on 7th centile 20 week scan

I just had my 20 week scan today and baby was only measuring on the 7th centile.
They couldn't do all the checks they needed so I have been re-booked for another scan in a few weeks but, I really can't help but worry. I had two previous small babies and my last pregnancy my son was born at 26+3 due to severe placental abruption

I’m so sorry that today’s scan has caused you worry and I think it’s completely understandable in your case given your previous experience of having small babies and a premature birth. However, measurements on 20 week scans can be way off- even a mm difference can massively reduce or up the percentile. My son was expected to be small from various scans but ended up weighing just under 9lbs at 39 weeks and was 90th centile for height. I know this won’t necessarily reassure you though.

Could you afford/ do you think a private scan while you wait for your next scan would help or not? Either way, I assume that you will be given advice if, at your next NHS scan, your baby continues to measure small given your history. You could always call your community midwife now to explain that it’s made you anxious, and to get a clearer idea of what kind of additional care and monitoring you’d be entitled to?

I really hope your next scan comes around quickly and that all is well for you and you baby. Take care.

Thank you for your reply and it does provide some reassurance.
I have my next scan on the 31st March so not long away. Hopefully this time she will have gone up on the growth chart!
They did struggle to check everything as she was very active her position wasn't great for the scan so that could have made it more difficult to get accurate measurements.

I just want to pass the viability mark now!

Try not to worry. Stick to the next scan date they will be comparing growth so you dont need an earlier one

@Eggybreadwithnuts thanks. The scan on the 31st is just to finish the anatomy scan as they couldn't see everything properly. And then I will have another scan at 26 weeks to check growth. I am so nervous and anxious that something is going to go wrong.
