20 week scan measuring 9th percentile, referred for growth concerns

Hello, we recently had our 20 week scan and measuring 9th percentile, with the Femur the smallest at 16th percentile. So we've now been referred... obviously this is anxiety inducing as neither of us are small people.

My only comfort is based on my ovulation date (based on LH measurement and a ovulation pain in ovary), my dates are around 4 days earlier than what they then dated me at 12 weeks. But not sure why I was ahead then, and now I'm behind?!

Does anyone have any reassuring experience with all of this please x

My DS was measuring smallish at 20 weeks (with short femurs) so we had regular growth scans which still showed that he was small, but he actually turned out to not be so small at all when he was born on the 25th centile.

20 weeks is still early so your baby has another 20 weeks of growing to do, and a lot can change. It’s good that you’ve been referred as they can keep a close eye on you and your little one to make sure all is well ❤️

It's really scary when you are told something isn't going normally during a pregnancy. I developed gestational diabetes at only 8 weeks pregnant and instantly on insulin. The expectation of having a much larger baby was something I was warned about so I was very shocked when they said that she wasn't growing properly at the 20 week scan and there also wasn't enough fluid around her. She was only on the 2nd centile, but everything was in proportion.
From then on I was scanned every two weeks. In some ways it was comforting to hear the heartbeat and knowing she was still hanging in there but also terrifying that we needed to be monitored so closely. There was many possible things that would have been severe complications. I needed an emergency c section because she stopped moving at 37 weeks. When she was born she was absolutely tiny and she got whisked off to special care immediately. However she did well and despite looking like the development stage of a much younger baby and having problems feeding, we were able to take her home fourteen days after birth. She stayed between the 2nd centile and just below it all the way through till she was 10 years old but was in every other way healthy, just petite and tiny. However now at 22, she's 5"6 , a size 8 and doing well at university.

Knowing what could go wrong is useful for knowing the signs you should be watching for but try to keep things in perspective and only worry about what actually is happening and not the what ifs.
I wish you all the best and that you have a good outcome too. Xx

We had this, but even lower. Femur measuring on less than the 5th centile. We were really worried. Fast forward a few years and our beautiful, slightly feral, 3 year old has short legs- just like everyone else in both sides of the family!

It will be ok. Your baby might just not be 6 foot one day. ❤

Currently 27 weeks. Scan 21 weeks; Our baby’s scull brought overall measurement down to 4th percentile. Had two weekly scans, baby progressed 2.5 per week, now 11th percentile, sonographer happy, they’ve stopped regular bi weekly checks and now being scanned next at 32 weeks.

Oh the stress waiting those two weeks initially. we originally! @Herewegoagain85When are you booked in for scan? Also, our date put is a week ahead at 12 weeks too, although sonographer insisted no correlation.
