i’m trying not to worry about it too much, but at 28 weeks my baby is in the 9.5 percentile.
I’ll be having frequent appointments and scans from now.
did anyone else have to deal with something like this?
Thank you. ☺️

Yes. I was regularly told my first was measuring small. She wasn't small.
Same with my second a few years later.

JustAnotherWhinger · 10/03/2026 18:12

The issue isn’t being small, somebody has to be on the smaller end of the scale for the scale to work. Three of mine were on the 10% end.

the only one that was a concern was DD3 and that’s because she went from 50% to 10% progressively as weeks went on.

It’s also not an exact science and there are so many factors that can make it difficult to measure - I had a lovely blunt sonographer once who was very open with me that the fact I carry most of my fat on my belly made it harder.

Muckypig · 10/03/2026 19:02

Yes as above, is your baby maintaining her centile or dropping? Dropping is a concern, maintaining not so much.

Pusstachio · 13/03/2026 05:08

We are both short and DD was also on the 9th centile. At school now and never stops talking- she’s absolutely fine. A midwife told me she used to work in a region with lots of SE Asian families and they didn’t refer for extra scans anywhere near as much there’s as they’d be referring nearly every family.

Hi OP, DD was 'bang average' at the 12-week scan then dropped to 45th at 20-week. I was already having growth scans and they marked a further drop to 25th percentile and I was recommended an induction before my due date.

However, at my final scan (39 weeks) the sonographer couldn't get an accurate reading of at least two measurements so it was hard to know whether there really was cause for concern.

DD was born a healthy 6lb2 at 39+4. This placed her just below the 25th percentile. She is now 11 months and has been tracking along the 9th for a good while. She's just dinky! And it turns out both my husband and I were ~6lb babies so we were never likely to have a large baby.

Chat openly with your consultant & enjoy the additional scans as an opportunity to see your baby again 🤗

Yes I did. Had twice weekly scans from 30 weeks up until I was inducted at 38 weeks. He was born 6lb and a happy healthy 10 year old now, a little on the small side but nothing health wise wrong.

yellowrocks · 13/03/2026 08:35

Yes, my baby was 50th percentile at the 20 week scan and then dropped at every scan after that, from 50th to 20th to 10th to 4th, and he was born 0.4th percentile. I was told I had low Papp-a and aspirin was prescribed to me too late to make a difference.

I had extra scans and heartbeat checks and everything showed fine every time so I wasn’t too too worried. A male consultant recommended c-section initially but at my next appointment a female consultant recommended coming in for an induction at 36 weeks and if anything goes wrong I’ll go in for a c-section. I went with the latter option knowing I was as mentally prepared as I could be for an emergency c-section if needed. Induced at 36 weeks on the dot with the balloon which got me to 3cm. Waters broken and an epidural later baby was born absolutely healthy at 37 weeks on the dot. I was hooked up to the heartbeat monitor the entire time and by then I knew what to look out for on the monitor if a midwife wasn’t around.

My nephews were born 5lbs and are now two very tall (over 6ft), gym going, active boys - hard to imagine they were born that small! My little one’s now a very cheeky one year old that’s been tracking along the 2nd percentile and we’re not worried at all about it 😊

Yes iv had 3 small for GA babies, my 2nd i was induced at 36w as dropped to 5th centile. He was 5lb 5oz at 36w so not bad as they predicted, and is now 6ft 7 at 17!

Thank you for reassuring me everyone, I feel a lot better now.
Mine is actually on the 9.5 percentile.
Husband and I are not petite though, hopefully baby will catch up and if not, I’m not worried anyway ☺️
