Can anyone enlighten me on theses parent ed. classes that I have to attend. What actually occurs and are they useful or waste of time?
Tonights one is about preparing for birth. Thanks.

I went to four NHS classes. I think the quality will depend on the midwife running them - unfortunately ours wasn't very good.

They should give you basic information on childbirth - stages of labour, pain relief options etc.

I would recommend you go because they are a really good place to meet other soon-to-be parents. Any information you get from them is a bonus!

they can be really informative.

The mw suggested that I go on one when I was pg with dd2 as it had been ten years since I had dd1 and it did teach me some things that I didn't know or had forgotten, but like Hoonette said, you get to meet others who will have little ones the same age as yours, it is nice to compare bumps and stories, and you may make some friends who will be invaluable when you have had the baby.

Thanks Hoonette. Im a bit worried as the letter states its a 3 hour session, and I cant go no longer than 15mims without needing the loo! Also what did you wear? Just comfy stuff ? Will I need to bring anything with me or is it all videos etc?

kentDee, you won't be the only woman popping to the loo every quarter of an hour!

Just wear whatever you're in - some people will probably have come straight from work and be in work clothes, others in casual home clothes.

Nothing actually got taught in our first session - it was all about introducing ourselves and making a list of all the things we wanted to know. I can't imagine you'd need to bring anything unless you were planning to take notes. You may well be given leaflets anyway.

As others say, it's worth it to meet other parents, and also find out about protocols etc at your particular hospital/birth unit. 3 hours sounds a bit long though - mine were supposed to be 1.5 hrs, but they never lasted that long.

Don't worry about what to wear!

Thanks everyone for your messages. I know, I thought 3 hours was long too. It means the class wont end till 930pm. This is my first class tonight as the letter says attend between your 33rd and 37th week. Im 34 weeks now.
