Hi all,
On Dr Shehata recurrent loss protocol.
Cyclogest and Hydroxychloroquine until 16 weeks. Just found out I am pregnant.
I feel so worried about taking Hydroxy. Just taken my first tablet. Please can others share their experiences.
Thanks

Hi, firstly congratulations 😁 secondly I dont know anything about taking hydroxychloroquine for this reason but I recognised the name of these tablets when I seen the title of your post and thought I'd comment. I have arthritis and started with a new consultant last year who was very helpful and knowledgeable. I was recommended this drug as it was safe to use if you got pregnant and at that time I had told him I wasnt sure if I wanted more kids but he assured me it wouldnt matter at all if I was taking this medication. Hopefully this helps a bit. Good luck with it 😊

i too have to take it every day and both midwife and Rheumatologist are aware and said it was fine.

Aw thanks both for replying! Did you get any side effects? Did you feel it helped you? I am taking it due to recurrent loss and an existing autoimmune issue he wants to keep at bay. I took my first tablets yesterday and felt fine. Think it was reading into the side effects a bit too much.
I have had two losses so it’s early days for me but feeling hopeful 🤞🤞🤞

Firstly, congratulations!
I have to take Hydroxychloroquine daily and have done for many years (under the advice of my Rheumatologist for an autoimmune disease - Lupus).
I took it all the way through my pregnancy, I was under consultants and midwife’s both in Rheumatology and obstetrics and with all the regular blood tests you have, everything is closely monitored.
Everything was absolutely fine (my daughter is now 8). I did go into flare after she was born, but I was expecting that!

Thanks so much for the reassurance! I have Graves disease, am in remission but antibodies are slightly raised. I am so grateful to have it but I read the side effects and felt like omg! But so far so good!
Do you feel it’s helped you? I suffer with inflammation in my bowel at times too so he said it should just keep everything in check x

Also to ask, if you don’t mind, how was your pregnancy with an autoimmune issue?

I don’t really get any side effects as such, it sounds strange, but the only time I do, is when I get a different brand of Hydroxychloroquine from the pharmacy. Then I may feel nauseous for a few days until I get used to that brand.
I do feel it has helped me and I noticed a big difference when I decided I felt better and stopped taking it (without professional advice and early after diagnosis) and that was just the medication doing its thing. I am still on it now, just a reduced dose.
my pregnancy was very closely monitored and I felt looked after and had a clear plan throughout, with a planned C-section (due to my own fatigue, pain levels and the heightened risk of a significant flare post birth).
I did feel my fatigue levels were higher than usual and joint pain levels towards the end of pregnancy were definitely uncomfortable and required physiotherapy.
However, I found it a lot easier than I thought it would be/advised, I found the recovery and pain levels from the c-section were considerably less than I thought (I only required paracetamol for a day - and I really don’t do pain).

Just pace yourself, listen to your body and when you feel things beginning to flare up, rest/work from home if you can.

I have joined the thread :)
I think I have had a chemical pregnancy as my tests are now completely negative, but progesterone masking the bleeding :(
I should of expected it as didn’t take the hydroxy for long enough prior to conceiving x x
