self hypnosis via hypnobirthign very common - loads of threads in childbirth. I'd get hold of cd and start practising some of techniques or go see a hypnotherapist (cant comment re childbirth but have been hypnotised to get over various phobias and does work).

And don't think you're a wimp at all - am full of admiration for going for no 7!!

posting quickly but they ought to be able to help you - I know some dental surgeries offer hypnosis routinely for pain relief so on same principles you'd think it could be used in labour.

I had my first baby using hypnobirthing techniques. I was planning to have him at home and in fact stayed at home until in second-stage labour when the little darling put his head up and got stuck! So ended up in hospital with emergency c-section. BUT the birth using self-hypnosis was the most incredible experience. Five years on and I am pregnant with number 2, planning to do a further hypnosis course although sadly will have to be in hosp due to previous c-section. I can't reccommend it enough - have a look at www.hypno-birthing.org.uk/. The woman who taught me is curently training to be a midwife so is not giving courses at the moment but her sight will link you to other people who teach the course. It is expensive (about £250) but if that is too much for you to pay it is still worth looking at the site and then maybe buying some books etc. Good luck!

Just realised that sounded like I had a c-section using just hypnosis. It's not that good! But the point is that even though I had epidural and all the stuff that goes along with c-section, the hypnosis had put me in such a great place that I didn't mind and actually ended up feeling like my birth experience had been a very positive one.

your post really good jessdem - have done the classes and now just waiting to put it into practice.. sounds like they weren't talking nonsense when said the techniques could be very helpful even if you have a c section.
