Did anyone have real contractions only in their back? If so what do they feel like?

Hi

Benn getting backache for the last few days, but this afternoon it has incresingly got worse. Also didn't experience contractions in lower back last time, only in stomach so don't know what contractions are meant to feel like in back....if this makes sense.

The back ache is intense and it is moving up the back now aswell, so litlerally all over, but more achey in the lower back.

Only had back pain with ds2 the whole time I was dilating.Didn't realise I was in labour till the midwife went to do a stretch and sweep, and realised I was 7 cm. Just had mild back pain, that's all.
Once Fully dilated waters broke, then felt contractions in abdomen.
How far gone are you?

Amandella · 16/06/2008 16:20

Sketchi - contractions or pains in the back are common with babies which are in the posterior position (ie their back is to your back) and I had this with both my kids. As MrsSylar says, how far along are you?

I am 36+4 with dd2. Been getting back ache for last few days, lightening occured 2 weeks ago and baby at last midwife appt at 34 wks was already 4/5ths.

I have also been experiencing shivers for the last few days and discharge has become noticably thicker.

I have always suffered with a lot of BH iin both pregnancies so thats just the run of the mill for me. And in last labour all my pains were in stomach, my waters never broke and my show only happened as an expolsion down my leg when I was 10cm.

Don't know what to do, been writing down tightenings for the past hour, but these have been irregular, but backache is getting worse.

Yes, I had back labour too, and DS was posterior. I would say that most of the pain was in my lower back, but not exclusively, i could feel it across my belly too.

Sketchi can't hurt to ring the labour ward can it? See what they think if you can't get your mw. You almost count as being full term now. Good luck (I'm excited for you - am 7 months pg with no3)

Amandella · 16/06/2008 16:40

Sketchi, I'd sit tight for a while. Keep monitoring the pains tightenings and see how they progress. I had posterior pains for a few hours with DC 1 and I spent quite a bit of time on my hands and knees - eventually she shifted round to an anterior position and the pains came into the front. Sounds like you might be a bit early with this one - not uncommon with second babies and as you are nearly 37 weeks, no real problems I would say.

lulumama · 16/06/2008 16:42

is your baby lying back to back?

i would give labour ward a call, just to be on the same side. you might be in the latent phase, or just having annoying twinges.

if you are in pain and you are concerned, then get checked out

Sketchi · 16/06/2008 18:41

Thanks for all your messages. Basck pains still there and still monitoring any tightenings.

Will go on all fours I think, rock back and forth and then if achiness and pains still there I'll ring labour ward.

I keep expecting explosive pain to happen any moment, or severe tightenings that happened with DD1. Prob take bath as well now that DH is home from work and can look after DD1.

You have all been a great help! x x Good luck with all your pregnancies and labours to come!

Sketchi - how are you doing today??

spendalittlelivealot · 17/06/2008 12:58

Hope everything is ok sketchi

Sketchi · 17/06/2008 20:52

Hi to all. Thanks for checking up.

Went onto all fours last night after reading the last message from Amandella, think the baby was posterior, as after a couple of tries the back ache calmed a little.

Also had hot bath, but I don't think that helped much. Would def recommend the rocking back and forth on all fours thing, as I thin that relieved my back ache. Went to bed with hot water bottle against my back as well.

Today I have had no back ache what-so-ever thanks to all your responses. I know what to do if it happens agin, I def don't want back contractions for this labour, but funny how the last 4 days the ache has just been solidly in my back.

Really appreciate your advice. Fingers crossed for a safe and happy labour! x x
