Progesterone question - not going in as far at night?

Hi
I’m currently 8 weeks pregnant after two losses in 12 months (I have one daughter who is 5)

I’ve been taking 200mg progesterone vaginally twice a day since I found out I was pregnant and do this in the morning and evening.

My worry is the past few evenings I’ve found it really hard to insert the pessary, it seems to be hitting something and I don’t want to push as this is painful. Morning seems fine and it goes in up to my finger (sorry tmi?) But this evening it was only a couple cms in and I had to stop.

have other people found this, and is it normal? I’m anxious as I’m at the same point as my first miscarriage now so constantly worried and hoping it doesn’t mean anything inside has dropped? Also has some cramps the past few nights since this started to become more difficult to insert but these have been mild and there’s no bleeding.

hoping it’s normal and someone will be able to reassure me. I’ve not got a midwife yet and not sure how to get in touch with the consultant who prescribed them but that will be my next route I think!

thanks in advance anyone who can help ❤️

I feel like mine is different every day, I’m 7 weeks and some days it goes up so far I can’t feel it other days I can still feel it a bit. I wouldn’t worry about it as long as it’s not falling out your body will still dissolve it. I think it depends on how everything is sitting inside you. If you’re feeling uncomfortable I wouldn’t hesitate to go speak to a pharmacist or calling your local early pregnancy unit, not because it sounds like anything is wrong but to put your mind at ease. Good luck with everything!

The space definitely changed about in there for me, I was on it for first 12 weeks and have been on it since week 16 (now 22) and def there are days I think I didn’t get it in far enough, but as far as I know, alls well even on the days it doesn’t go in very far. I’ve never had it leak out or anything.

Midwife here. Try pushing it gently to either side. You will be hitting your cervix but there is plenty of space around it/behind it.

Congratulations on your pregnancy

Also consider using it rectally. I found it much better when I switched as it was giving me thrush. It was a lot less messy.

@100Otters just to say, I’ve been advised specifically to only use it vaginally in both ivf context and late loss prevention context, as the studies on progesterone in pregnancy are based on vaginal insertion. I don’t mean it doesn’t work the other way, but unless op has been told by her consultant/dr to do otherwise, in my opinion based on what I was advised by consultants after asking, it’s important not to swap it (again, unless medically advised).

Interesting @ForLoveNotMoney. My clinic made us start it rectally pre transfer then said we could switch to vaginally if we wanted after maybe 24 or 48 hours. I tried it for a couple of weeks then switched back due to the discomfort. My clinic told me it was just down to personal preference but of course that can be dependent on the protocol you are on so definitely take your doctors advice!

Thanks everyone for your replies they have definitely reassured me! It went in fine this morning so fingers crossed for tonight as it’s the evening when I seem to have the issues 🤞
