I didn't. It would have taken sodding ages!

ConnorTraceptive · 16/06/2008 13:59

Nah, I never bothered

Cios she might have moer than 10 babygros and some socks

crokky · 16/06/2008 14:01

The clothes are very small, couldn't you fit them all in the same wash load? All my DD's clothes easily go in one load, all DS's clothes do as well.

I wash new clothes before putting them on DD (2 months old), but don't wash new clothes before putting them on my DS (2 years old).

claraquitetirednow · 16/06/2008 14:02

I washed all of my PFB's clothes.

None of my NSB.

Traveljunkie · 16/06/2008 14:09

Thanks for all the replies!! I have about 60 outfits - first grandchild....

If you have 60 outfits, leave the tags on and only wash some.

I can promise you the baby won't wear them all, return the unworn outfits or get them in a variety of bigger sizes.

gruffalopie · 16/06/2008 14:13

just checked with DH who works for clothing manufacturer and he says you absolutely have to because of toxic dyes which are in most clothes.

Traveljunkie · 16/06/2008 14:15

Gruffalopie, I will definately do that. many many thanks!
I will just donate the excess to the charity shop, my parents live abroad and outfits have come from numerous countries - all the more reason to wash em!!!!

You have to wash them , at small temperatures , I also use a disinfectant and a specific baby washing powder.

dgomez · 16/06/2008 16:10

Ups, I meant low temperature......

sweetkitty · 16/06/2008 16:15

I'm 37 weeks and thought this was part of having a baby, all mine are washed, ironed and folded neatly in drawers (most were her sisters anyway with only a few new things so no tags) and they will never be ironed again!

I wash all bedding, towels, underwear and clothes for under ones before wearing as well.

missingwine · 16/06/2008 17:39

Washed and folded everything, but v lazy so only ironed flat sheets for the cot!

tinkhasabean · 17/06/2008 08:58

i did for dd1 as newborns have such delicate skin

MrsJamin · 17/06/2008 21:02

the odd thing which I have put on unwashed has resulted in a slight rash - so you definitely should!

sonnyoutlook · 17/06/2008 21:25

I washed all DS's clothes and also his blankets and sheets in one wash but then we'd only bought the basics.

kookiegoddess · 18/06/2008 10:49

Do you need to wash gro-bags before using??

MrsJamin · 18/06/2008 12:37

yes definitely

Katelyn · 18/06/2008 12:52

Yes you should.

A substance is added to clothes to make them appear so white or colourful and make them look so pristine in the shops.

Although not proven to harm the baby, your baby has just come out of a sterile environment - why wouldnt you wash them to be sure?

Good luck for your labour - enjoy your little bundle.

Bouviergirl · 18/06/2008 15:29

I don't understand this belief about washing newborn clothes before they wear them, but fine if others do like to wash.

My box of household-name non bio powder says it contains: "amionic surfactants, oxygen-based bleaching agents, zeolites, cationic surfactants, nonionic surfactants, phosphonates, polycarboxylates, soap, optical brighteners, and perfumes" - nice!

A bit of dirt from factory floors and shops is just what babies/children need more of these days, in my view!

MrsJamin · 18/06/2008 16:05

I don't agree BG, surely if you washed the newborn clothes without any detergent it would be better - and we are talking about a newborn, their skin is ultra sensitive. We're not talking about older children whose skin has developed to be less sensitive. If you saw where most clothes were made these days you'd definitely wash them before wear.

dgomez · 18/06/2008 16:54

I wash all clothes, also mine and my husband's , apart that you don't know where they have been, where they were made, how long they've been in lorries, floors, etc, also in shops all sorts of people touch them and try them on, I personally think it's disgusting to wear them right away.

i never washed any of my girls new clothes and they have never had a rash so i wouldnt worry about it, i am sorry but why buy new if your going to wash before you give it as if

each to their own but
