Abortion pill experiences?

I found out last week that I am pregnant and I am roughly around 5-6 weeks. I have thought this through and it is completely the wrong time for both me and my partner and we have both came to the agreement that we would like to terminate the pregnancy. I have contacted my local NHS clinic and the soonest appointment they have for a phone consultation is this Thursday. I also contacted BPAS who offered me a telephone consultation for Tuesday. I have booked both appointments just incase however will probably cancel my nhs once I have spoken to BPAS. Both have suggested the pill and am just wondering what peoples experiences are of this? I have terrible emetaphobia and have seen a lot of people that have vomited from the pill and am so worried about this. I suffer from horrendously painful periods so am used to the pain but am just wondering what the pain will be like? I am so anxious about the whole thing as I have never been through anything like this before. I’m just hoping someone can put my mind at ease 😊

@Tinyyetsatisfyingim so glad your at the end of it now! I have felt dead nauseous since last night and into this morning. I woke up at 5am and vomited but not sure if this was morning sickness or because of the medication. I’m going to take my anti sickness tablet before bed tonight and then my 4 tablets at 9am tomorrow morning. I’ll let you know how I get on. Really unsure if the nausea is just anxiety related but hoping it subsides soon.

Yes please let me know how you get on. My bleeding has now completely stopped. :)

@Tinyyetsatisfying I’m so pleased it’s all stopped for you😊 I took my 4 tablets this morning at 9am and started to get cramp within 15 minutes. I’ve had cramp on and off all day and it has been extremely painful but the codeine that the hospital gave me has really helped. I’m unsure as to whether I have passed it yet as I experienced so much clotting from around 11am-4pm today. It’s not as bad now so I’m really not sure.

I’m so pleased for you that it’s going ok. Are you off work tomorrow? It’s a rough couple of days but you should be back to normal in time for your holiday!

Tinyyetsatisfying · 23/02/2026 18:18

@sunriseshipI hope you’re getting on okay I’ve been thinking about you

sunriseship · 23/02/2026 18:21

@Tinyyetsatisfying hey thanks so much for your lovely comments. I really do appreciate it. I’ve been okay today I’ve still got cramp at the moment however they’re no where near as bad and as often as yesterday. The bleeding has also settled down a lot since yesterday. Now my only worry is that I hope the tablets have worked 😂 just as I didn’t see the clot pass. The nurse did say that because I was so early on, I may not see it pass and it will just be tissue. I do feel a lot better in myself today and am returning to work tomorrow. How are you now?

I am completely fine. My bleeding has completely stopped and I even had intercourse with my DH last night. No pain, no blood, nothing.

I couldn’t tell you when I definitely passed “the mass” either I had a few different clots but none of them of anything substantial

I am so glad you’re getting on ok! Did they give you a termination test to take? I’ve to take mine on 8th March

sunriseship · 23/02/2026 19:09

@Tinyyetsatisfyingim so glad your okay! Do you feel back to your normal self now? Have you started with any contraception too? I’ve been prescribed desogestrel (not too sure on the spelling) however I’m so reluctant to take it as my body has never reacted well to any form of contraception.

Yes they’ve given me a termination test to take too. They’ve said to take mine on the 13th March.

Yes they gave me Cerelle (mini pill) and I started taking it last Sunday. I’ve never been on this before so will see how it works out! My DH is going to try and get a vasectomy. (We already have a child and only ever wanted one)

Yes I feel 100% back to normal. I feel like my body is my own again.

@sunriseshipjust wondering how you’re getting on?

sunriseship · 26/02/2026 22:12

@Tinyyetsatisfying hey how are you? I’m starting to feel a lot better in myself. I’m still bleeding but it is no where near as heavy as before. I’m also still cramping on and off throughout the day but again it’s not as bad as before. I’m just hoping this is all normal for the stage im at😊

I'm 44, also in Scotland, got a positive test last weekend, phoned NHS on Tuesday, and the earliest appointment is 23rd March, 3 full weeks away. This sounds horrible, but living for 3 weeks with your body not as your own is a horrible prospect. None of the other services covers Scotland, so whilst they say UK, it's not. There seems to be a massive disparity between regions, and Scotland is the worst.

I haven't even told my husband as I don't really want talked out of it, I think I'll tell him nearer the time, so I'll have to live with that too. I sound really selfish here, but we have two kids already, and to put it bluntly, we're poor, and at 44, I can't go back. I need to prioritise the kids I do have.

Greatful for such a safe space

Oh I am heartbroken for you. I am in Lanarkshire in Scotland, phoned the Monday and appointment was for the Thursday. I found the concept of waiting 3 days excruciating, nevermind 3 weeks. I used my sisters address and booked an appointment with NHS Fife and that came back as 3 weeks! So I cancelled. I completely agree with your point - I looked into BPAS and all the rest of them and was desolate to find out they do not serve Scotland.

i obviously don’t know your relationship but i would think you might be better telling your husband? 3 weeks is a long time to live with this in your head and nobody knowing.

I completely understand your decision. I am 35, have one DS, and we are also financially struggling. Another child was not an option for me.

What I can tell you is the medical abortion process once started is really not as bad as you’d think, I am now 3 weeks post-medication and I am completely fine - physically and mentally.

If you want to talk at all please feel free to reply or direct message me x
