Pregnancy loss.

Had an ultrasound Tuesday to check on the second sac that was found empty at 6 weeks 4 days. First sac had a heartbeat and baby. 2 weeks later, was supposed to be 8 weeks 5 days. But was informed there was no heartbeat and the second sac looked to be bleeding. Told to come back in a week to double check. But why are my pregnancy tests still so dark. I’d have thought they had faded by now, that the test line would be lighter but it’s still darker than the control line. I’ve not had any cramps, any bleeding. Nothing. I’ve still got pregnancy symptoms, nausea, fatigue, uncomfortably sore boobs.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. The tests won't lighten until your levels of HCG drop which will happen following a miscarriage. When your body hasn't recognised the loss yet the miscarriage won't start, the tests remain positive and the pregnancy symptoms stay.

I've had two missed miscarriages where my body didn't miscarry without medical intervention. Both times I had strong pregnancy symptoms and positive tests right up until after the miscarriage. I also had to return for a second or even third scan to confirm the pregnancy wasn't viable before any options were presented to me.

Unfortunately the later the miscarriage the more HCG in your system that neefs to drop. It rises quicker than it drops.

Your body may start to recognise the miscarriage or you may need medical intervention to kick-start it.

Sorry for your loss

I hate the waiting. The fact I’m having to wait a week for another scan and having to stay pregnant this whole time knowing both sac’s aren’t viable. I keep wondering if the second sac actually caused the first to stop growing cause the second sac was so much bigger than the first. The one that had the baby in was so much smaller than the second sac and I’m wondering if the pressure or something just caused the first to stop growing.

It’s so frustrating, I just hate the waiting. Waiting for my body to recognise it isn’t viable anymore. My daughter’s second birthday is Sunday and I just don’t wanna have to go through this on her birthday. Trying to keep myself distracted with getting her birthday organised.

They had also measure the baby in the first sac and it appeared to have stopped growing after my first scan. Cause it was measuring at 6 weeks 2 days. So my body’s been continuously producing pregnancy hormones for 2 weeks when it hasn’t needed too.

I’ve had a few MMC now and it does suck that you can continue having pregnancy symptoms for such a long time despite no viable pregnancy. My first one it stopped growing at 5.5 and I had strong symptoms all the way up to my surgery at 10 weeks. Tests were very very dark the entire time as well. It’s horrible though.

It's awful isn't it. Unfortunately they're unlikely to give you and answer for why it's happened, they seem to just say it's just bad luck/one of those things so you'll never know. So glad to hear you have an almost 2 year old to keep you distracted, they are the best distraction when things like this happen!

The timing is always terrible with these things. My first MMC i was worried would happen on mothers day and my second i was worried it would land on my sons birthday or grans funeral :( I'd recommend the surgery if you get the choice, it gives you more control (I've tried waiting for it to happen naturally and medical management too but the surgery was way better).

Edited

I’ve also got a three year old who turns 4 in like 2 weeks as well🤣 so I’m definitely got my distractions. To be honest I was going to opt for the medication, the idea of a surgery freaks me out🫣

Sorry you're going through this.
The medication didn't work for me, I had 2 doses a few days apart, ended up miscarrying naturally over a week later.

Oh yes, plenty of distractions then!

I didn't have a good experience with the medication, it took over 4 weeks of heavy bleeding on and off and 2 extra trips to hospital to complete the miscarriage, i was also very anemic after and needed an iron infusion. Some people have a much better experience but definitely do some research before deciding.
