Excess fluid around baby 38 weeks

Has anyone had any experience of excess fluid around baby and how was it managed?
i had a growth scan 2 weeks ago and fluid was fine, another one this morning and the fluid is 8.2 and the limit for it being ‘ok’ is 8.
I am due to have an urgent gestational diabetes test (previously negative at 28w) and see someone from the obstetrics team.
does anyone have any experience of this and were they induced etc for this? I wanted a water birth on the midwife led unit but wondering if I should be saying goodbye to that thought

13 years ago now, but I had off the chart polyhydramnios. It turned out to be ideopathic. I remember going for a scan and people commented that it looked like I was expecting triplets. I do remember being monitored more closely with more scans and being tested for gestational diabetes. My son was born at full term with absolutely no complications.

I had extra fluid, it meant I was classed as slightly higher risk but didn't actually affect anything. I was induced but only because I was 10 days over, no one seemed concerned!

I was massive with polyhydramnios. Looked like I was having twins. There was no discovered reason for it, but they did give me multiple growth scans in the last few months. Baby was born bang on time with no issues and a normal weight. I did have a lot of prolonged BH, which I think was down to the pressure.

I was found to have it last week at my 32 week growth scan - a bit higher than yours, i think my deepest pool was 10.3cms and my overall was 31. It is a bit scary, especially as I already have a few other risk factors but they said half the time there is no explanation for it. My consultant said that at the levels I am at, there is no increased risk of mortality or morbidity too so that was comforting.

I was referred for the diabetes test and that came back negative and I also did some blood tests so they can check for any infections (results not back for that yet). I am having growth scans at 34, 36 and 38 (36 and 38 were already booked in due to other concerns so just the extra one was arranged off the back of this). They also said the baby will need a check over when it is born to make sure there are no obstructions (as sometimes it can be because baby isn't swallowing as it should which they were worried about for us) and so made a neonatal referral.

I was already planning for a CS so not sure on any potential effect on birth plans. They did tell me if my waters break though, then it's a medical emergency and to lie on the floor on my knees with my bum in the air 🤣 and ring 999. This is because there is a tiny risk of cord prolapse. Good luck, it does feel daunting to hear of anything being 'not quite right' but fingers crossed it doesn't affect anything for either of us 🤗
