DH has been listening to bootlegs of My Bloody Valentines warm-up gigs and they are playing at ear-splitting volumes. Loads of feedback and white noise just the way we like it

He is a bit worried about harming bigmouth jnrs hearing (ours is beyond help)! According to this rather prissy blog I should be going to a concert of Chamber music instead! Ignoring that - should I be worried? I will be seated in the circle not moshing at the front btw!!

I posted a similar thread a while back as am going to the Supersonic festival next month, and the general consensus was that it will be okay and that I should be more worried about myself in terms of needing to sit down/needing to be near a toilet

Very jealous of you seeing MBV, my other half is going next week. I saw them when I was a teenager and they were indeed awesomely loud. Have fun!

Thank you Cyteen I will seek out that thread.

Enjoy Supersonic - I that as haven't been to a proper festival in a decade.

stripeywoollenhat · 15/06/2008 16:57

bigmouth just want to say i am jealous....

cyteen · 15/06/2008 17:06

Yeah, do bear in mind that MBV themselves always wear earplugs when they're playing!

motherinferior · 15/06/2008 17:08

I was going to say exactly what Riven did.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 15/06/2008 17:09

lol - yes I will be wearing earplugs - as the audience will mostly be made up of 'groovy' 30+'s we all will be trooping too superdrug or boots in Camden on Friday(they had better get extra in!

Seriously I am planning to have a word with the midwives on Monday - but I expect being seated near the back of the venue it should be fine.

I think prolonged exposure to industrial noise is obviously not good for a developing baby but 1 hr in an venue where i can go outside if it gets to much is not a problem - I would think not anyway.

When preg with dd I saw the Breeders - now 2 her hearing is perfect - at least now i have no worries about being exposed to smoking in the venue.

hmm well in my first trim i went to see linken park and second i just saw the foo fighters, but did find myself sitting more and dancing less, no moshing for me this year!i find it intersesting to see what music my baby kicks to and what keeps it quiet, seems to be only classical!have trouble telling whether it kicks because its rocking out or to punish me?

I'm going to MBV on saturday - very very excited. not too worried about the baby though having read previous threads on here. I was prompted to do so after going to see Bjork in april - would have been about 16 weeks then and the bass was immense.
I agree with riven that its more likely to be your hearing than the baby's at stake as they are at least protected by the amniotic fluid! No way i am going to wear earplugs though!!

I went to loads of gigs when pregnant and was told that providing it doesn't exceed 120 decibels it's fine and in a venue with lots of people it's unlikely to top that and I think legally it can't be much louder than that. The venue will have all details.

I used it as an excuse to always get upgraded to VIP seats - needed more space etc, at the very least I got put in disabled which are normally very good seats!! Enjoy.

Well we went - it was very very very loud but the buzzing in my ears has stopped now We had a good evening and i am glad i went. I stepped out a couple of times as the vibrations rather than the noise made me feel a little queasy at times. I think bump will be fine and perhaps will have a liking for white noise and feedback instead of tinkly nursery tunes?

Missingmyheels - we were upgraded to front row circle but that was due to my friend now needing a walking frame (he has MS) - so I would rather that we hadn't needed the upgrade iykwim. Great view though.

I hope you enjoyed your evening too Ksal (dh was gutted that we didn't have saturday tickets as he found out this week that Spectrum were supporting sat night).

Had a great time thanks! Sonic boom supported on saturday... bit of a slow start but they picked up! I stood quite near the back and during the break in 'you made me realise' i noticed there was another pregnant lady standing quite near me and we were both holding our bumps... as if that was going to make a difference!

As we were going in someone asked the steward handing out the earplugs if they were really that loud and she replied that 'yes they really were, in fact i felt sick' so you weren't the only one!

I'm taking the bump to see radiohead on tuesday, but that one is outdoors so not worried about it at all!
