I'm pregnant with my second child who is due once my first child has just turned three.
I don't drive and my 1st born is still in his pram. He's not great at listening to directions / runs off a lot still.
What would you recommend I do for a pram? Really don't want to end up not going out much, even in the early days but also hate the idea of a double buggy (altho most likely option now). I'd love if he would just hold onto the pram and walk but lol - no chance.

My second was born when my
first was 2.5. For the first couple of months I’d just put the baby in the carrier and toddler in the pram.
I did eventually buy a double buggy but hardly used it. I now just put the baby in the single pram and my toddler walks (you could used reigns if you think he’ll run off). Also sometimes my son will ride on his push bike instead of walking.
Have you thought about a buggy board for your 3 year old? You can get ones with seats on.

honestly if he’s a runner and not listening yet i’d just accept the double buggy life 😩 i fought it for ages with mine thinking it would be massive and awkward but it actually made going out less stressful because i wasn’t constantly on edge watching one run off.

pram board never worked for me either, they just jump on and off and it turns into a fight, and “holding the pram and walking” is the dream but yeah… not realistic with most 3 year olds lol.

a compact double or even a single with a proper toddler seat attachment might be a good middle ground, but safety wise i’d always pick contained over chasing two kids down the road while pregnant 😬

it’s not forever, just the season you’re in. anything that makes leaving the house easier is worth it tbh 🙃

I used to have toddler on wrist strap or backpack reins for shortish journeys . But double buggy will be so much easier .

We are expecting our second and we got a Bugaboo Donkey Duo. I read a lot on MumsNet about it being a pain to get in and out of cars etc. but we live very close to creche (as in we don't even bring our buggy to creche, we just walk..) and we just use it for walks in the park etc. I haven't used it on the double setting yet but I know it will be wide, but it's the right thing for our family for this age gap. We will not be doing the shopping with it or going into small shops, that's just not what we do with our kids so we should manage with this. We need a huge basket for all the stuff and I wanted side-by-side so I could see both of them (I really didn't want the ones where they're on top of each other!).

Based on our research though, the Out n About Nipper was the clear favourite for a lot of people! It fits through normal doors and is less bulky than most double buggies. It sounds like it might be the right fit for you.

We wanted to buy second hand as we hate buying new stuff, and no one in our country buys the Out n About so there are no second hand ones - another reason we went with the Bugaboo Donkey! I also like that the Bugaboo converts back into a single so when our oldest is out of the buggy we can switch it back to the single one (but we also have a Yo-Yo for travelling and will probably just end up using that when we're down to one!).

Agree with other PPs, it's worth the reduced stress to get double buggy. We have a double buggy where they are stacked one behind the other rather than next to each other which feels a bit easier for space saving. I was similar, my DS1 was 2 years 10 months when DS2 was born. He was far too active and unpredictable for a buggy board and would never just walk from A to B. He's now 4 and will ride his bike for any walking pram journeys which works well. He's still not keen on walking just for the sake of it! 😂
