Booking appointment at 12 weeks 3 days?!

I’ve just been given my booking appointment (via a frankly insane system of text > email > app > email > pdf letter) and have discovered I’ve been booked in for when I’ll be 12 weeks and 3 days pregnant.

This seems extremely late for everything I’ve read on here, and in the letter where they tell me when the appointment is they say themselves it should be between 8-10 weeks.

What do I do here? Is this safe?

Totally fine. I had mine 12+6

The range is between 10 and 14 weeks I think. I was 13 weeks 6 days with dd1.

OK this makes me feel better, I was thrown by the letter itself saying it should be a different date! I’m guessing this delays my 12 week scan, is that a worry?

It’s really not an issue so early on in pregnancy it will make no difference to anything .

The 12 week scan is typically booked separately to booking in. At none of my booking in appointments did they arrange a 12 week scan but they did always ask if I’d received a date for one yet and when it was. I’m guessing you’ll get the date of your 12 week scan before too long.

12 week scan they take bloods and go through some medical history and test urine. It’s good to kick off the whole process but it in most cases it’s not going to change anything health or pregnancy wise.

I think this is a bit unfair, I’m literally going off the letter the NHS sent me that says the booking appointment SHOULD be 8 - 10 weeks. I’ve never done this before, I have no idea if I need to be seen sooner for any bloods etc.

There was literally a thread a few days ago where everyone was telling the OP if she didn’t have her booking appointment ASAP she was putting her health at risk!

I think that’s odd. In my area i’ve had booking appointments around 7/8 weeks both times!

StealthMama · 07/02/2026 18:16

It’s simply a scheduling thing OP. Based on the staffing and when they can fit you in given your dates.

Wow... how rude

Thesofathatwas · 07/02/2026 18:59

It’s all so underwhelming isn’t it.

We were ecstatic with our pregnancy but the medical community are totally uninterested and in no rush to do anything!

Congratulations Op, it will all slot into place eventually.
Keep taking your folic acid and ask any advice on here, they are usually a great and wise bunch x

Ffs.

The booking appt is there to take down a thorough history of the parents health. Ensure they’re taking the right vitamins, not taking medications that could harm baby (epilepsy for example) - you think three to four weeks of not intervening in certain situations is nothing?
