I can't remember at what stage of pregnancy it is recommended to stop wearing underwired bras?
Does anybody know?
Thanks x

not sure i have been in maternity bras since 6 weeks. think it says 8 weeks

I wore my normal underwired bras throughout both of my pregnancies as couldn't afford Maternity Bras. I just let the straps down a bit - i thought that was what most people did.

expatinscotland · 14/06/2008 17:29

i can't afford maternity bras, either, but i highly recommend Tesco sports bras - they do the same job and are only a fiver each!

PortBlacksandResident · 14/06/2008 17:30

I always felt Maternity Bras were the clothing equivalent of Top and Tail bowls .

expatinscotland · 14/06/2008 17:31

i hear ya, port.

can't see the point in paying more than a fiver for a bra, tbh.

Thanks for all replying.
I have seen some lovely ones in Debenhams but as you all say they are quite expensive.
I bought a great multi pack from Marks and Spencers last time but my bra size has changed since last time .

I think as long as your bras fir properly (i.e. not oushing into your boobs) you can wear underwireds. I'm still in mine at nearly 12 weeks - might go and get fitted for some maternity/nursing bras at some point but my normal ones are still comfy.

MrsSprat · 14/06/2008 17:37

I managed till about 20 weeks, but then it got a bit breath-taking and I went a size up.

Mummyandi · 14/06/2008 17:39

Officially they say around 7 months as thats when your milk starts being produced and the underwires could affect that. I would stay in normal bras as long as poss cos maternity bras are awful.

nobodysfool · 14/06/2008 17:42

I dont think the Miriam Stoppard ones are ugly.....not as pretty as ny usual ones but not bad for maternity ones.
Hotmilk has some really pretty ones as well though they are a blommin fortune!!!!

My normal wired bras were too small and too uncomfortable at 23 weeks. Went to M&S and got measured, got a two pack from them and a couple of Primark sports bras (which I find better) for £4 each.

loujay · 14/06/2008 21:26

If you get fitted regularly then you can wear wired bras throughout pregnancy.
I did with DS as didnt really want my breasts down by my knees!!
I went to john lewis to get measured and fitted and then got the plainest ( and cheapest)

slinkiemalinki · 14/06/2008 21:31

my normal wired bras were too small within about 5 minutes! I am still buying wired bras though - now 26 wks and have moved from 30DD to 32E to 34E. I just feel so much better than in those maternity or sports bras but obviously costs a bit more.

finallypregnant · 14/06/2008 22:12

39 weeks and my underwired bras fit just the same as they did before I fell pregnant!

As long as your bra fits then I don't think it matters.

Upwind · 15/06/2008 08:35

I could not fit into my normal bras at five weeks. And I was reluctant to spend lots of money on ugly maternity bras - so I picked up a multipack of non-underwired ones from BHS. Now I can't fit into those I've bought the same multipack in a couple of sizes up.

lackaDAISYcal · 15/06/2008 08:41

I'm wearing underwires at 20 weeks, in fact I got then just the other week and had been BFing my DD rpior to that so I wanted a chance to feel "normal" beofre I start in feeding bras again. I got measured for some bigger ones at Debenhams. Their own range of underwired bras start at £12 and are well fitting and supportive. The ones I got were £16 each so not expensive at all really.

Curretn advice is that as long as the bra fits properly then underwires are OK.

And that any bra, underwired or not, if ill fitting could cause problems.

elibumbum · 15/06/2008 08:44

JoJo Maman Bebe sell reasonably priced maternity and bf bras. I used JoJo bf bras as maternity bras to get more use out of them (some of them are designed for fluctuating breast sizes).

cece · 15/06/2008 09:02

I wore my underwired ones till 38 weeks, when I got fitted for my nursing bras. Then wore them. But I do have enormous norks and needed the support.
