Anterior placenta

Hello!

Im 19+3 weeks into my second pregnancy, and have an anterior placenta again.

looking back at my old pregnancy diary from my first, I could feel plenty of movement from him at this point in the pregnancy but with this one, I’m really struggling and my anxiety is through the roof.

Ive spoken to the maternity triage unit and they basically said you won’t feel anything yet, it’s completely normal and when I do start to feel movement keep a diary. In the same breath she also said “ we can’t always put no movement down to placenta position” which didn’t reassure me at all but she insisted I wait u til my 20 week scan next week. I asked if I could just go into triage and have someone find the heartbeat just to put my mind at rest because I’m convinced something isn’t right and was told no.

I feel really silly but I just keep comparing it to my last pregnancy where I felt movement so early on with an anterior placenta, surely they can’t use that as a reason for everyone?!

Isn’t 19 weeks a bit early to feel movement, regardless of placenta? I didn’t feel anything until 26 weeks with my first, and 22 weeks with my second. I wouldn’t worry, wait till the scan as the midwife suggests! Maybe this baby is just a bit less fidgety, or maybe you’re paying less attention since your older child is keeping you busy.

18 weeks is pretty normal/average to feel movement, especially in a second pregnancy. I felt it around 20 weeks the first time and 17 weeks the second time around.

An anterior placenta can definitely delay that though. Someone I know has an anterior placenta and has only just felt her first kick at 30 weeks. All healthy with her baby!

I’d tell your midwife how you are feeling. Unfortunately you will be told “it’s normal” by every professional because it is. I felt my first baby at 19 weeks with an anterior. Second baby is posterior and I’m getting wiggles at 15 weeks.

But I’ve had friends who have had multiple children and didn’t feel anything for 20+ weeks.

I tried going in for reduced movements at 23 weeks with my son and was told by triage that movements aren’t consistent until 28 weeks onwards. They did see me in the end as I was unhappy and spoke to my midwife and all was ok. It’s hard not too worry though

I’m 38 weeks now with anterior placenta and I definitely haven’t felt movement as clearly as with my first pregnancy. I think even anterior placentas can be placed slightly differently to each other and depending on where baby is and which way they are facing muffle differently. If you’re really concerned could you pay for a private scan? What I have learnt is each pregnancy can be so different so try not to worry and compare (easier said than done!)

No. I kept a diary from my last pregnancy and felt movement from 18 weeks.

I have an anterior placenta and I didn't feel anything I was certain was baby until 23 weeks, was told it can be normal to feel things later woth anterior placenta but as with anything if you are worried talk to your midwife

I think I was about 22 weeks in my previous pregnancy before I got the flutters / gassy feeling. Around 24 weeks before proper kicks.

Currently 20w and nothing either yet

I'm the same 22 weeks and not felt any movement. I know they say not to but I got a Doppler so I can check myself, and it's reassured me
