Trying to conceive for third baby are my chances lower now I’m in my 30s?

I’m early 30s now but desperate for a third child, it’s consumed me! we haven’t been ‘actively’ trying just tried to be in the mindset of oh if it happens that’s amazing, but as time has gone on… I know my body clock is ticking so we’ve started to track my ovulation, luckily my periods are like clockwork, however,
we’re doing the deed twice a day every day around peak ovulation..

are my chances going to be slimmer now due to my age? Or is there a good chance I could have a third child ?

Still a very good chance.

i had my second at 35. Loads of people wait until 30s to have children

KimuraTan · 26/01/2026 14:21

I had my third at 31 and fourth at 33. If I were you I‘d track my period and make a concerted effort to try if you’re desperate. Can’t see you why it shouldn’t happen for you! Wish you the best of luck!

The average age of a first time mum in the UK is closer to 32 so I’d say you’ve got absolutely nothing to worry about right now.

I’m not saying your journey will be smooth as no one can say that but I’m early 30’s and conceived my 2nd within 6 weeks and I have PCOS.

I was told you have a better chance dtd every other day for the best quality sperm then every day or twice a day. But you’ve already got 2 kids so you know what works best for you haha!

Good luck OP I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine,

Unless there are any underlining fertility issues (which there doesn’t sound like there are!), I really don’t think your age should be an issue! I had my first at 37 and my second at 39 whilst on the mini pill!!

Hi, age alone shouldn't be a factor at all for you, but if you are worried you can get some tests done (AMH, day 3 and day 21, prolactin, hycosy, pelvic scan etc off the top of my head) and a semen analysis for your partner. I don't know how long you have been trying, there's no reason to believe there is an issue unless you've been told but equally a clockwork period doesn't mean there is no issue. If you need private blood tests I can recommend Randox, Medichecks and onedaytests.

As above I don't think twice a day is recommended as sperm needs a bit of time to replenish, particularly for those with lower levels which you won't know without recent results as a lot can change over time (not necessarily because of age but just various factors, lifestyle, diet, type of exercise etc). I would recommend every 1-2 days in the run up to ovulation and a few days after peak ovulation as there is some leeway in how long after peak you ovulate. Good luck! 😀

Twice a day every day is excessive. You’d be better off doing it a bit less and letting supplies build. You’re early 30s, no decline in fertility until 35 onwards.

Cupboarddoorknob · 26/01/2026 14:34

We conceived quickly (3 months “trying”) and I’m 34. Loads of people do, try not to worry. Like pp have said I would not be doing it twice a day, your partner’s sperm need time to be made!

Every 2 days would be plenty and may increase your chance of success. I wouldn't expect any sudden fertility issues in your early 30s if you've been fertile in your 20's.

LetticeProtheroe · 26/01/2026 14:59

I got pregnant first time trying at 42. If your fertility is good, early 30s is nothing.

I had my first at 27 and when I spoke to my GP about me ttc at 30 cause of my PCOS she said the fertility chances are pretty much identical.

She said 27 and 33 are so similar with chances to conceive it’s just past 35 that it does start dropping and then dramatically after 40

so I agree there really isn’t much difference

I just conceived my third at 34, first cycle

Currently 38 weeks pregnant at age 38! First child is 10 years old… we actually struggled to conceive this time as I have PCOS, so was on metformin for 6 months…. (Had been trying for 2.5 years in total) and ended up under a fertility nurse at the hospital. What seems to have worked for us was rather than just concentrating our efforts on the peak ovulation days we had sex every day for the entire 2 week window. The first month we actually did that we conceived! Think we just weren’t catching at quite the right time. You’re still young though so plenty of time! Good luck 💕
