Long post ahead, apologies in advance.
I found out me and my partner are expecting on new years eve. However I had very very recently come off the depo injection so totally unsure of where in my cycle I were when I conceived. Clear blue test stated 1-2 weeks that day. My lmp before this was 2/12/2025. 14th jan i had one sided pain and was sent to EPAU, they did a blood test and scan, the scan showed a gestational sack measuring 3.9mm and my hcg was 1182. This was repeated on the 16th and it had gone up to 1600 which they said although it is rising it is sub-optimal so wanted to repeat this in 48 hours and scan me again. On the 18th I had bloods and another scan which showed a gestational sack in the right place but no fetal pole or yolk sack as of yet, the gestational sack had grown to 6.1mm. My hcg had risen to 2100 and I tested again with a clear blue and got 2-3 weeks. The hospital have decided to wait until the 28th to rescan me and hopefully we will see a yolk sack at minimum. Ive done another clear blue today and it has gone up to 3+ now. Im trying to not be too hopeful as it will break our hearts but has anybody had a successful pregnancy like this? It may just be that because I came off the injection i ovulated later right? Im not sure i could take another loss.
Thank you

Obviously no one can say for certain what’s going to happen. Regarding the scan, it could well have been too early. Going by a positive test on 31/12, that would mean on 14/1 you could have been possibly only 5 weeks pregnant (you couldn’t be earlier than that though). This can often be too early to see much on a scan.

The blood results are a bit more worrying. HCG should be doubling every 2-3 days and yours hasn’t quite doubled in 4 days. But, there have been cases of slow rising HCG still resulting in a viable pregnancy.

On the 28th you’ll be minimum 7 weeks so you’ll get a definite answer at that point. Most clinics/EPUs can tell you honestly at 7 weeks if it’s viable or not. Before that it is much more likely to be inaccurate.

So if I were you, I’d try and be hopeful yet realistic. The tests so far don’t look great, but it’s far from a certainty that it’s hopeless.
