TTC#2 - Thin Uterus Lining

Hello. I’m new here so not sure if I have posted this in the correct place.

We have been trying to conceive our second baby for 14 months now with no luck (no indents, miscarriages or chemical pregnancies - nothing). Our little one is coming up to 4.

i had a gut feeling was wrong in the summer so booked some private tests after only trying for 6 months and the doctor found that after ovulation, I had a uterus lining of only 3mm. He said this was extremely thin and unlikely to support a pregnancy. He suggested I have some bloods and a follow up scan as it could be a one off.

My hormones all come back as above average so he was happy it wasn’t that causing it. But the repeat scan showed that yet again my lining was really thin 2 months later.

I am now waiting for a hysteroscopy and I can’t help but feel really gutted it’s got to this. I don’t understand why my lining is doing this. I had a scan done around a year after giving birth to my son due to something else and i looked back on the notes and they noted that my lining was 8mm on day 15 of my cycle so my lining hasn’t always been thin.

My partner has been checked also and his sperm sample was all ‘excellent’ so clearly I am the problem.

i am just wondering if anyone else had experienced similar and gone on to conceive naturally? I really don’t want this hysteroscopy but guessing I need to to get the answers I’m looking for.

Hi @OneRealPanda hopefully the hysteroscopy will help shed some light on this for you, I have had several hysteroscopies to identify and resolve adhesions and scar tissue, caused by a d&c, and it's the best procedure to see what's going on! My lining wasn't getting to the right level because of the adhesions, which weren't picked up on an ultrasound scan initially, I think I had a post ovulation lining of just over 4. I had a hysteroscopy either a follow up 6 weeks later, and then did get pregnant again almost immediately but unfortunately was a chemical.

I then did IVF so didn't conceive naturally in the end but as part of the process learned there's lots that can be done to boost a thin lining with medication (that I'm sure you can take outside of an ivf cycle) and I also did various holistic things like acupuncture, womb massage, drinking pomegranate and beetroot juice and eating lots of whole grains. Mine was never stellar but my consultant said people do get pregnant on thinner linings

Good luck with the hysteroscopy, I hope its helpful

Thank you so much for the response! I’m glad it all worked out for you in the end. Can I ask if you found the hysteroscopy painful? I have unfortunately ended up reading some horror stories and a friend told me to insist on being put to sleep. I didn’t realise it was this type of procedure so naturally feel a bit nervous now!

My 3 hysteroscopies were all under general anaesthetic as they were surgical rather than just exploratory, and I was pleased to be knocked out and wake up after! No pain at all afterwards. Mine were done privately, and I think a GA is more common, NHS may well be different, I'm not sure

Hi, do you know if a light period indicates a thinner lining? What is your experience?

In my experience yes, my periods have got lighter - still regular though. Funnily enough this only started the same month we made the conscious decision to start trying! Before that my periods were very usual.
