Has anyone developed acne rosacea in pregnancy?

I developed acne rosacea in my first pregnancy two years ago. It didn't seem too bad, but now I'm 15 weeks into my second pregnancy and it's flared up again. I don't like to use a topical antibiotic just in case it affects the baby. Any suggestions?

i got it bad just AFTER i had ds nearly 2 yrs ago. nothing got rid of it. I have been using benzoyl peroxide face wash (not clearasil or anything) which you can get from chemist. It is quite strong but i feel that is the best so far and my skin isnt as bad.

I have acne rosacea even without pregnancy hormones. I am off the meds at the mo coz pg. I have found the best skincare products for me to be the Boots Expert Sensitive range, eg

i LOVE that eye make up remover muddling, the best one for removing waterproof mascara!

Yes I did. I eventually got rid of it (in about a week) by using a cream based on emu oil (vegetarians look away now). It was brill, even if it did mean smelling like an emu's bottom. It was Anti Blemish Cream by a company called "Purple Emu" (yes I know it sound unlikely, but I'm being serious). The distributer in the UK appears to have folded, so I'm going to have to get supplies from the US. If anyone's interested I'll try and find a link as it was great for me.

By the way, there is reputable research on the anti-inflamatory properties of emu oil.

did it help the dry scalyness too?

diplodocus · 13/06/2008 21:43

Mine wasn't really scaly, thogh used to feel gritty IYKWIM. The area is still a bit pinker than the rest of my skin, but is so much better. I've got quite sensitive skin, and the great thing about it was it didn't cause any reaction.

I think I developed it - itchy red spotty skin on my cheeks and really sensitive?

Try Avene products? They do a fab range that is for spotty/acne skin that is also sensitive to harsher products.
