Do high risk/older mothers routinely get an midwife appointment at 30 weeks or so?

Does anyone know if I need this extra appointment or has it been booked for me by mistake? I am on a 'high risk' pathway only due to age 40+, but I don't know why I have been booked an additional community midwife appointment for 31 weeks as I thought that was only for primaparas not multiparas? Or is it something to do with being high risk? It seems somewhat unnecessary to bring me in to measure the bump again when I have a growth scan literally a few days later and an a consultants appointment that same day? Is it NHS trust dependant or should I query whether it is necessary/a mistake by the midwife? I am not especially keen on unnecessary appointments as they require childcare coordination.

Just ring your antenatal unit and ask why? You don't have to go to any appointments you don't think are necessary.

I remember reading once that maternity appointments are the only ones the NHS Just randomly schedules without telling you why and expect you to show up none the wiser. It's completely bizarre

You have midwife appointments generally every 4 weeks which then go down to 2 weeks as you get closer to your due date. I am 36 years old and had my last midwife appt last week (38 weeks). I scheduled my appts each time I saw my midwife. I am not high risk.

I waa in my 40s with my youngest dc. I wasn't considered high risk. Only extra appointment i was offered was an extra scan and daily monitoring when I got to 39 weeks.
I was offered induction at 40 weeks but declined and had dd at 40 weeks and 6 days, water birth and absolutely no issues.

Good luck.

In our trust, 31 week appointments are for primaparas but also high risk pathway patients to keep an eye on BP, do another urine dip and just generally keep an eye on maternal wellbeing as opposed to being about the bump measurement. If its not convenient for you and you will have your BP etc taken at your consultant appointment then I would contact your midwife and decline this appointment.
