If your 2 pregnancies were really different, did you end up with the other sex from your first?

Just wondering as my (current) second pregnancy has been quite different than my first - mainly in terms of much worse tiredness and nausea this time around, along with less interest in sweet foods, plus cravings.

Last time I genuinely remember commenting to my sister that I can see how people don't realise they're pregnant at all, whereas this time round there has been no mistaking it - sometimes I have felt sick for the whole day, and up until a week ago I have been struggling to stay awake from around 8pm, although I imagine some of that is due to generally greater tiredness from broken sleep/early mornings/running round after a 3yo.

So just wondering if anyone else has had 2 (or more) quite different pregnancies which ended up resulting in the baby being the opposite sex to the first?

Just out of interest, I know it's not scientific! Just been quite surprised to me experiencing more of the 'textbook' symptoms this time round after not really having any at all last time.

Mine were massively different, so much so that I was convinced I was having a girl the second time around - nope, two boys!

TheNightingalesStarling · 09/01/2026 16:15

Mine were really different. First was hyper sense if smell, craving salty food (and beer), lots of movement. Constantly boiling hot. Second was constant heartburn, didn't mind smells, craved sweet stuff.

Both girls.

(Also a miscarriage before either of them, where my main symptom was extremely sore breasts, but no idea if that was a girl or boy.

DappledThings · 09/01/2026 16:17

The opposite. Nearly identical pregnancies but one child of either sex.

Nursemumma92 · 09/01/2026 16:19

Mine were totally opposite and I had 2 girls.

Mine were incredibly different but my third pregnancy was different again so, as I have only produced DC of the male and female gender, I don't think you can predict from how you feel during pregnancy.

cadburyegg · 09/01/2026 16:21

Very different pregnancy, labours and births with both of mine. 2 boys.

itsallgonetomush · 09/01/2026 16:21

I was quite sick with ds and not with dd. I’m not sure if that was because dd was my second pregnancy, though.

Tryagain26 · 09/01/2026 16:23

Mine were different and I did have a baby of the opposite sex but I don't think that necessarily means anything

HarryVanderspeigle · 09/01/2026 16:24

Nope, same sex both times, very different pregnancies.

Slightly different pregnancies.

First had nausea, cravings and aversions, few moments of tiredness, but I could get on and off the floor easily right to the very end. Second hand barely any nausea, one moment of craving and no aversions, but my goodness the fatigue and pelvic pain was unreal. Labours for both were fairly similar, but the actual births were different. First was an unassisted vaginal birth, second an emergency C-section.

One of each. Girl then boy.

First pregnancy (boy) was a dream from start to finish, loved every second- no aches or pains, neat little bump and not a hint of any sickness. Craved salty food.

Second pregnancy (girl) some morning sickness/nausea, lots of mood swings and much more emotional. Much more uncomfortable with aches and sciatica issues. Much more tired (but then I am 5 years older) and craving sweet things when I don’t usually have a sweet tooth at all.

Quite different pregnancies for me!

WhatAreYouDoingSundayBaby · 12/01/2026 11:22

Wow interesting, seems like there is no rhyme nor reason then.

I am definitely feeling this pregnancy so much more, bump is bigger and I have some pelvic pain already at only 17 weeks, that didn't happen until around 30 weeks last time I'm sure.

Luckily the tiredness seems to have faded and I seem to be getting my appetite back a bit, which is nice.

All fun and games isn't it 😶

Total opposites, first pregnancy I all I wanted to do was sleep in the first trimester, had a constant grey tinge, no sickness, horribly sore boobs, and just struggled. Second pregnancy, awful nausea to the point I just wanted to cry, boobs were fine, and once the nausea passed I had a bit more of a glow about me and lots of energy. Both girls :)

NormaNormalPants · 12/01/2026 23:25

Not what you asked, but aside from bump shape my pregnancies were carbon copies and I’ve got a DD and DS.

imcountingtothree123 · 12/01/2026 23:27

Two similar pregnancies, one different. All boys

Lauren0902 · 12/01/2026 23:29

Mine were massively different to the point I was asked a few times by midwives and consultants if my second baby had a different baby daddy to my first (he doesn’t!). I have both a girl and a boy

Mydonkeyisred · 12/01/2026 23:34

All 4 of my pregnancies have been totally different I've 3 boys and 1 girl

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 12/01/2026 23:45

I was really well throughout my first pregnancy - never been better. Gained 3 stone in weight and lost it quickly afterwards.
I had a boy.

Sick throughout the second two pregnancies. Looked ill. Didn't put much weight on - both girls.
