Hi - just about to leave the house to take DD to nursery this afternoon and I was suddenly doubled over with a sharp stitch like pain down the left side of my bump and into my left thigh.

Still left the house and waddled up the road in pain, noticing some lower back ache too. Pain in my left thigh and groin still there now I'm home and on the sofa. I'm 38wks 4 days.

And the cherry on the cake.....got to nursery and there's been a chickenpox outbreak in my DD's class started by her best friend I'm kind of thinking chickenpox is not good for newborns to be around....??

It could be ligament pain?
The day my labour started, I was doubled up wiht a stitch in the afternoon, but it went away. Went into labour at midnight after that. However, this would come under the heading 'anecdotal' lol!
Give the mw a call.
Chickenpox isn't much fun for a newborn but if you are able to make the healthcare types know about it, that may help?

StripySails · 12/06/2008 14:11

A baby has it's mother's immunity for the first 9-12 months, so if you've had it your baby should be safe enough.

As for labour, well, who knows

I'd be more hopeful about the lower back ache than the sharp pain. Have you reached the "just get it out" stage yet?

Good luck, whether it's now or another time.

Yes definitely at the 'just get out of me' stage!!

Think I'll call the MW just to check and i have GOT to pack my bag tonight - DH wouldn't have a clue what I'd need if I was whisked into hospital without it!

newborns can get chicken pox- i know a little boy who had it at 10 weeks old.

Its very rare but can b serious so its best to let MW etc know about it- they willl know wot 2 do and look out 4.

but pls dont worry, look forward to holding ulovely little baby very soon

StripySails · 12/06/2008 14:35

Actually fiodyl now you come to mention it the baby of a friend of a friend had it too. Shows what I know The baby was fine though obviously no fun for anyone. It's true that newborns have their mother's immunity for a period however I suppose that only reduces the risks, not removes them entirely. Breast-feeding would also be advised if possible I suppose for more antibodies.

OP definitely call midwife if you haven't already.

hmm and now sharp pains on and off in my fanjo! (sorry TMI)

MW phone typically not being answered - GP's not open again til 3.30 and too too scared to ring labour ward. THat would make all this way too real and we're so not ready yet! All baby stuff still in loft fgs! (That's DH's fault, I'm certainly not going to hoik myself up there to go rummaging for bouncy chairs and car seats)

knockedup · 13/06/2008 16:28

Have started to get my bag together now though, and DH is going up in the loft this weekend to get everything down!
