Hi,

Had a growth scan today. 32 weeks.

Measurements were:

HC: 306.0mm
AC: 270.5mm
FL: 61.4mm

EFW: 1848.0g

Does this seem small?

Thanks.

What did the midwives/medical staff say during/after your scan?
Usually they'll flag any concerns at the time, and call you back for a further scan and then potentially see consultant.

According to my midwife, everyone gets a personalised growth chart because there are many factors affecting what is "normal" for your baby, including size and ethnicity of mum. If you are concerned, contact your LMC and talk to them. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

I had a scan 2 weeks ago at 30 weeks and the was EFW 1.4kg so your 1.848kg aligns well with the expected ~200gr weight gain per week. Unfortunately I don't have the other details, but overall my little one was roughly on the 28th percentile - so not a big baby but also nothing to be concerned about. I am sure they would've flagged it if there are anything to be worried about.

I have another scan tomorrow (32 + 6) so can give you an updated estimate then, but I really think you have nothing to worry about.

Too many factors. Remember the whole range can be completely healthy.

My friend was referred to fetal med for short femur. Mum is 5ft, dad 5ft 6. Parents were shorter than average, baby was shorter. Femur was in proportion and baby completely healthy and now a healthy child thats still short tracking the same height centile as when born!

I had one consultant wanting me to be induced as my growth scans were all over the place. Another argued against it as CTG, fluid level and blood flow through cord were all fine so didn't see a need to induce on the least accurate measurement. Scan at 41+1 showed 7lb baby, baby was born at 41+2 weighting 9lb 2oz. Completely healthy, still huge 🤣.

Another friend had consistently lowering growth scan centile measurements, reduced movements episodes and was booked in for 38 week induction. 2 days before her induction date she was rushed in for a crash c section under general anaesthetic when she went in for one of the reduced movement episodes. Baby was tiny (5lb), placenta looked like was deteriorating, and baby was struggling but recovered well in NICU and is now a completely healthy child that is now larger than mine!

Growth measurements are there for a reason, but should be taken in the context of lots of other factors.

I think it was because my fundal height a few weeks prior to the growth scan was on the 50th centile then the growth scan is on 29.9% centile as if there’s a growth restriction but I get that scans are the most accurate x

Yeah, my fundamental height never matched up. We called that tape the magic random number generator. My first fundal height measurement I was just above 10th centile line. My second measurement was just above the 90th centile line (leading to first 'emergency' growth scan referral). Third one was back to just above 10th centile so another emergency growth scan as my fundal height hadn't just dropped centiles, it actually measured smaller in cm. This pattern continued. My fundal height at 40 weeks was exactly on the 10th centile line. I gave birth to a 9lb 2 baby, which was like the 80th centile.

They literally laughed in my last consultant appointment that they'd never seen someone with a fundal height measurement between every single set of centile lines before.
