When to go to triage?

Hi all,

I’ll be 36 weeks tomorrow and for the last few days have had dull period pains and needed to go to the toilet constantly! On NYE I had two, what felt like, contractions then nothing else.

This morning my cramps have got worse with waves of nausea, not quite waves or contractions though, but back ache.

Is it worth a triage trip? I have my toddler with me so will need to get DH back from
work, and I’ve had a couple of trips there this pregnancy already, so don’t know if I should just wait it out.

Worried about going for hours and them telling me it’s nothing. I did have an appointment last week and mentioned the period like cramps and they just told me it was a good sign, but I don’t know l…

One of my labours all the pain was in my back. It was incredibly uncomfortable rather than the waves of sheer pain. I didn't know that was a thing until DH's Granny said "I think you're in labour" after watching me for a bit - baby was born four hours later! 😂

If you feel like you should go to triage then go.

Thanks @MannersAreAll yeah I remember with my first lots was in my back and pressure in my bum, which is what I have no, although not ‘bad’.

I was induced first time and it took days so I don’t have much to compare it to!

I suppose the worst that could happen is they say all is fine!

Can you call triage first? That's what I've done in this pregnancy and they triage you with lots of questions and then ask you to come in or wait and see for example. Save you a trip and waiting if not needed. I'm 36+2 and have had similar period pains this morning! FTM and I guessed it's baby moving down into my pelvis.

Everyone experiences childbirth differently. With my third, I thought I was having braxton hicks because I’d never had them before, and like you I was 36 weeks. I just breathed through them. By the time I’d got to hospital, I was 10cm dilated, so only had to push twice.

Give triage a call, that’s what they’re there for. Better to have a false alarm than give birth on your own at home. Good luck.

Thanks all, after hours they seem to have calmed down, going to have a rest and some food and see how I get on

Call your MW or the triage line, describe to them and ask their advice. Wouldn't bother asking on MN.

Of course I would do this if majorly worried, it’s also nice to have other voices to turn to when you have a lack of real life support.
