Cramps and loose bowels and pressure 22 weeks, anyone had this?

I was up several times last night/early hours of this morning with cramps then needing to run to the bathroom (loose bowls), it's better now, but i'm still getting cramps around my stomach and pressure on my cervix (I assume and hope this is from the pressure of going to the bathroon so often)

But I stupidly Googled, and it came up about preteem labour and listeria, it's making me very anxious. Has anyone else had this and if so how did it turn out?

Hi there, have you got your maternity notes with you?

You are over 18 weeks pregnant. Please call maternity assessment unit for advice

I had this when I'd taken something to try and relieve my constipation during pregnancy, and it was painful but completely fine. Since you're over 20 weeks, I'd definitely ring the unit.

@smooze @Kosenrufugirl
Thank you for the replies, I rang them earlier and they said to keep up fluids and eat the 'BRAT' white diet and I could go to GP if it doesnt get better by tomorrow.

I felt better after speaking to them but now i'm feeling so anxious again.

I'm sure you are anxious about this but you have taken medical advice. I suspect you are not drinking enough so have a nice pint of water and then keep drinking. Don't forget you have lost water through dodgy belly and you have a load of amniotic fluid to make/maintain too. Drink!

The cramping and pressure never really eased, it isn't regular or anything so likely it's just the effects of my things but I have phoned EOU and came up to get checked just to be safe or I dont think I will sleep tonight.

They said they can check my waters haven't gone or anything, but it will involve a speculum and a swab. Do you think that's something I should get checked or would it be risky?

It's completely safe and it's to rule out infection (or get it treated if one is there- some infections don't cause problems until much later).

Please go if you haven't done so already. Maternity Assessment Units are open 24/7 365 days a year

Just to update incase anyone searches for the same thing in the future, I got checked and had my cervix fluid tested, my waters hadn't gone.

So I had different cramping at the sane time, partly from the upset stomach which was giving my sharp pains around my stomach last night, ligament pains and on top of that I had braxton hicks for most of last night. Apparently the irritation caused by bowls plus lacking in vitamins/hydration can cause a whole range of cramps.
I'm far better today now as i drank tonnes of water yestersay/last night but i'm glad I went last night as the reasurrance was just what I needed.

Thank you all for your advice x

You need to get yourself to hospital, not asking on mumsnet

BusterGonad · 02/01/2026 07:52

What do you mean? She said she did

Muscle cramps can be associated with dehydrations especially if you have had loose stools. Start drinking to replenish that and also phone maternity just incase.
