Inhixa injections in pregnancy

Hi everyone, I have been put on daily Inhixa injections throughout my pregnancy and am currently 17 weeks and struggling because a) harder to find fat to grab as bump is growing and b) am getting a nick of blood afterwards - which I know just means you hit a blood vessel but it’s making me so paranoid. How do I avoid hitting blood (at the beginning this didn’t happen as much). I’m so scared about things like internal bleeding and about getting it wrong and would really appreciate any advice. This is an IVF pregnancy so I am so terrified to do anything to jeopardise it x

I’ve been on inhixa since 9 weeks and currently 36 weeks!! You get used to it and it’s just part of my bedtime routine now. I also hate hitting a blood vessel - but it’s quite normal to do that and the needle is far too small to reach near the baby. My skin is stretched v tight now , but I’ve never injected on the belly area really. I only go for the sides and the kind of hip areas, I’ve also recently had to start injecting right round the sides almost where my bottom is as it’s more fatty! When i squeeze a bit of skin, I go for about a two cm wide squidge and I also raise my leg up (alternating sides daily) and put my leg on the bath or a little chair because I find that helps get more squidge to the skin. If I gently press the needle head to the kin and it stings badly, I tend to move to a different area. If I start to press the needle in, and it doesn’t sting as bad I know I’m likely to be injecting into a better fat area. I also tend to look for any veins under the skin and avoid those. There is an area for me that hurts a lot less , if at all, and that is just above the hip bones and around that small area. Make sure you are fully emptying the needle into the skin and keep the plunger pressed down as you pull out the needle , I find that helps to avoid nicks of blood. Good luck and don’t worry it will become second nature!

And I’ve only been told to worry about internal bleeding if I hit my head hard enough to cause concussion xx

@Butterflysunshine01 thank you so much for your reply, it’s so helpful and reassuring and I really appreciate all the tips and advice, it’s made me feel so much better! So would you say you can inject pretty much anywhere you can grab fat? I never know where exactly I can and can’t try! x

Yes anywhere you can grab some fat!! The area to completely avoid however is near the belly button - I tend to avoid a five cm wide area around the belly button but also avoid directly above and below there right up until the ribs (sorry probably not clear but basically imagine a five cm wide area starting under the breastbone down to under the belly button) because the midwife says there’s a muscle there that could really hurt if injected into. You also can inject into fatty parts of the thigh, and back of the arm!
