Would you opt for a c section to have tubes tided?

We have a DC already, pregnant again. I know I’m done, not just children but being pregnant. I can’t physically do this mentally again. Honestly I have thoughts about this pregnancy not continuing due to the HG (HG mummas will understand this)

I had an induction before which wasn’t great. How crazy would it be to opt for a c section and get my tubes tied?

Pretty crazy. Much easier for your partner to get the snip. A c section is major surgery. The snip is ten minutes in outpatients, less painful than getting a verruca removed.

They won’t always do it any more. Apparently it works better as a separate operation.

A C-section is recovering from major surgery while trying to care for a newborn. It’s a life saving last resort.

your husband can have a quick procedure at a convenient time and then spend 3 days sitting on the sofa or in bed.

I think I’m that scared of pregnancy we would want tubes tided and DH to have the snip.

The other pro would be knowing what date baby is coming. With my induction we went back and forth to the hospital for 6 days and no way we could get family help for that long. We don’t have family near by so the extra stress of DC around is weighing on my mind

I was offered to have my tubes tied with my 3rd csection, I instead had a coil fitted. I didn’t want to make any decisions which I would later regret.

I had severe HG with all of my pregnancies so I know just how debilitating it is. Infact after my 2nd I was begging to have my tubes tied and they suggested ex husband had the snip instead. Fast forward 12 years I had my now youngest and although the pregnancy was horrific, birth very traumatic and a very long nicu stay, I am glad I didn’t get my tubes tied.

In regards to dates of C-sections, these can be changed last minute or cancelled on the day for emergencies. Good luck with whatever you decide ❤️

I did consider this after my 4th child but the consultant talked me out of it. She did say if I needed an emergency section then she would note to tie my tubes but couldn't guarantee it would be done.
I didn't need a section so I'm now on the depo prevera injection every 3 months. So far it's working and I'm happy on it.

I’ve had 2 sections and no way would I opt for one just to get my tubes tied. One was horrendous and I had a terrible infection which resulted in a 2 week hospital stay. definitely not the easy option people think it is.

You can get your tubes tied as a simpler procedure at a later date when you don’t have a new born yo look after.

This is what I was told fifteen years ago with my youngest; it was offered because my pregnancy was high risk and had to be a caesarean delivery, and any subsequent pregnancy would have been higher risk still - but in the same breath as explaining how very, very inadvisable a subsequent pregnancy would be and offering tubal litigation, the surgeon explained that there is a relatively much higher long term failure rate with tubal litigation done as part of a caesarean than done separately...

Not being reliable (combined in my case with only being offered it very shortly before the caesarean) seems to make it less of a good idea... It depends whether you subconsciously relax and get lazy about not relying on it...

Okay so I have had 3 sections (1 emergency and the following 2 planned) For my 3rd I was offered this and after some consideration I went ahead. I’ll be absolutely honest it was an additional 15 mins on to the c section surgery but due to the spinal I felt very little. My pain relief did wane towards the end but it was still managed and topped up by the surgeons.

My recovery time was absolutely same as with the previous sections…they went hand in hand and there was no difference at all as I was just numb and on bed rest , I wouldn’t have known I’d had an extra procedure at all in all honesty, and I’ve no regrets having had 3 children and hitting 41.

The only side affect if you like, and it may not even be due to the tubes being tied.. is that I have really heavy periods that are an absolute nightmare to control for the first day or two,but besides this, me personally I done what was right for me and I don’t have any regrets. This is also coming from someone who is terrified of anything!

Make sure you discuss getting your tubes tied in advance. I asked to have it done ahead of my c section last month, and they wanted me to have longer (weeks) to think about it. It was my 4th section so would be dangerous for me to be pregnant again. DH now must have the snip!

I wanted to get my tubes tied during my second C-section - I’m an older mum and I b really don’t see more kids in the future. The consultant said they don’t do this anymore at our hospital. The midwife later explained that it used to be offered but it wasn’t viewed as best practice any more, that hormonally it’s better to recover post partum first and get your tubes tied later down the line. 🤷‍♀️

Worth a chat with your consultant.
