Had a growth scan today at exactly 28 weeks, babies estimated weight is 2lb 3.. however they recon he’s coming up small, I assume in all other measurements.. he’s currently on the 6th centile which she said anything under 10 is a concern.. she then asked if anything had changed recently which it hasn’t and movements are always few and far between because of my placenta being high Anterior which I suppose is normal for me..
has anyone else had this and what steps did the hospital take?? I’m waiting on a phone call but going mad in my own head now😩
it’s took years to get this baby n now I feel like my happiness has been ripped from me.

Sorry to read this and can understand it feeling scary. The only thing I can add is that growth scans aren’t always accurate and predicted weight and centiles can be off. When they’re still so small it doesn’t take much to push a measurement into the ‘measuring small’ or ‘measuring big’ category.

If they are on the smaller side it doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a problem, someone has got to be on the lower end and upper end of the centiles. And if there is something else going on then it’s good it’s been picked up and investigated further. Hope you’re not waiting too long for the follow up call. x

Hi @DeeRoo

Firstly just wanted to say sorry for the stressful situation you are in!

If it's possible to get a growth scan from another sonographer, it might be worth it just to confirm whether the 6th percentile holds up. I had 2 scans from 2 different sonographers earlier this pregnancy, and the one measured 10 percentiles higher than the other.

Also, if you and/or your husband have are relatively small, it might explain why baby is not big. My first consistently measured around the 12th percentile, but I have a much smaller build than average so the doctor was not concerned.

Lastly, perhaps there is a little bit of comfort in the fact that even if your baby has to be delivered at this stage, the chances of long term adverse health outcomes are already very low. I know this is still scary as hell and not a scenario anyone even wants to think about, but I hope it helps to know the stats are overwhelmingly on your baby's side.

I hope you get feedback from your doctors soon, and I am sure they will take all the steps to keep you and your little one safe.
