I've been having growth scans due to polyhydramnios which seems to have gone back to an acceptable level now, but they have found they baby hasnt grown. I go back for another growth scan a week on thursday.
What will happen if they find little or no growth?? I'll be 35+5
many thanks

If they decide that the growth is not enough then they will probably decide that the baby is better off being born.

DD had IUGR and grew slowly until 37 weeks when she had stopped growing (Possibly she was almost a week earlier than this as 12 week scan dated her 5 days earlier than LMP and I don't tend to OV on CD14). My blood pressure had also risen so I was admitted straight from my scan. I was induced, which didn't work and then ended up with a c-section.

The most important thing is that dd was absolutely fine and once she was born she thrived. She was 4lbs 9oz when born and spent only a couple of hours in SCBU to get her body temperature up. From the moment she came out of SCBU she did fantastically. She is now 3.5 and has had no ill effects in any way.

Good luck !

wheelybug, what stage were you when your dd was born?

Is induction safe with a previous Csection and vbac?

in terms of how far into labour was I ? I had had pessaries which I didn't really react to, then had my waters broken and when this didn't work was put on a drip. I think in total I got to 2 cm dilated and that was a result of the first pessary. They said that they could tell (when they did the c-sec) that my body was just not ready to go into labour. This was a first pregnancy though.

I think they can give part of the induction process following a c-sec but not all of it (but I might be wrong on that). Presumably if you've had VBAC they might be more like to give you induction rather than someone who has only had a c-sec (but I might be wrong on that too !).

Sorry - I was officially 37+4 but could have really been up to a week less than this (her condition at birth was described as pre-37 weeks and 12 week scan suggested about 5 days difference).

wow this is very intresting for me as i had a growth scan the other day and my baby was smaller aswell due to this i have to go back in just under 2weeks for a follow up in case she hasnt grown then ill get referred to a consultant who will then decide wether she needs to be out sooner rather then later!!

im 33+3days

was worryed bout what the outcome will be

My ds also had IUGR and had slow weight gain from 22 wks or so. When they found he hadn't grown in two wks at 34+6, I had to have a c-section. Was told that usually your cervix ripens about 35/36 wks so couldn't be induced. Although I had other factors like high bp and absent doppler flow so would have been too stressful on the baby. He was born at 2lb 12 and although he spent 4 wks in SCBU, he was perfect in every other way besides his weight. Now 7 months old and healthy and has piled the weight on so he's now above average.
Good luck x

i have a doppler flow this afternoon. fingers crossed

Good luck with your doppler.I think that's more impt than the weight gain. I met a woman in the SCBU and her lo had stopped growing at about 34 wks with IUGR but as there was a doppler flow still there, they kept the baby in. Will keep my fingers crossed for you x

I was admitted with prem labour at 33 weeks, and had lowish fluid. Growth scan 2 weeks later showed no growth. I had the choice given to me (at 35+3) of induction, or daily monitoring & further scans. They had no explanation (placental flow dopplers were fine). Having had a previous induction at 39+6 (again for IUGR, although wrong), which resulted in a 4 hour labour without intervention, I opted for induction. I didn't want to take the risk of a late stage complication & decided that the prem labour which they managed to stop was a sign that she wanted out.

I was given a pessary the following morning, and had a bishop score of 5-6, so after 6 hours they took me around to labour ward, broke my waters & she was born that evening.

im so damn uncomfortable now that i know given the option i want baby sooner rather than later as long as there is the best chances for her. i just want my baby to be healthy

beachbunni, why was the baby in scbu?

OP posts:
AngeG · 11/06/2008 14:16

I had the opposite problem to you, oliohydramnios (low fluid) I had a scan at 32 weeks which showed he was very small for dates another scan was booked for 2 weeks to check growth and whilst waiting for that I had CTGs every other day to check the heart beat.

At the next scan there had been no growth, my blood pressure had risen and I had a doppler scan (although the results of this weren't explained to me) immediately after this consultant said we needed to get baby out. This was at 3pm and DS was born by c-section at 7.40pm. He weighed a tiny 2lbs 10oz he spent 3 weeks in SCBU basically putting on weight.

He is now a very happy healthy 4 yr old.

Good luck

BeachBunni · 11/06/2008 15:01

The woman's baby? Her lo was in scbu because it was just a couple oz of what they allowed them to go home at (it was 4lb 11 in our hosopital). Also her dd wasn't feeding properly. Kept on falling alseep during feeds and not taking enough. She was only in for a few days though until they got the oz on and the feeding sorted.

wheelybug · 11/06/2008 18:07

Hope the doppler scan goes ok Spendalittle - that should give them a good idea as to whether the baby needs out sooner rather than later. Good luck !

spendalittlelivealot · 11/06/2008 18:39

doppler scan was fine, so thats reassuring growth scan next week. xx

That's fantastic spendalittle. Every day is a bonus is what I was told but you kind of feel like you're walking a tightrope. Hope your lo is piling on the weight and you get good news next week x

AngeG · 12/06/2008 12:34

Great about the doppler scan

spendalittlelivealot · 12/06/2008 14:45

thank you everyone. Will keep you updated as things progress. Its really nice to have reassurance from people who have had similar experiences xx
