Morning all. Currently 6.5 weeks pregnant with my second DC. DC1 is five I have just turned 40.

I remember feeling rubbish with DC1 but not to this extent. I am not ever actually sick. I just feel sick all day and all night. The only relief I get is when I eat and then it’s only brief because immediately after eating I feel sick again.

Trying to continue on with normal life and work and not let on I’m pregnant is so hard.

I'm terrified I might have another 6 weeks of this .
Does anyone have any remedies that worked for them; currently wearing anti sickness bands when I can. Sipping a ginger drink and trying to have snacks with me at all times, it’s so hard

About 17 weeks, sorry! The indigestion then started at 20, but at least gaviscon fixes that

im same as you, 40 and nauseous all day long, waiting and hoping it will pass soon. Those who are sick throughout pregnancy are the minority. I think mumsnet skews this as it tends to be an outlet for people who have suffered. But when I ask friends and people around me, I'd struggle to find someone who was sick throughout, most people feel ok by end of first trimester or during the second trimester. the most likely situation is that this will pass or at least become more manageable. my mother recommended peppermint chewing gum and it is the surest way for me to stop feeling sick, and it works immediately. the pharmacist gave me chewable ginger, all natural. they haven't really worked for me, but he said he's seen thousands of women totally reliant on them in pregnancy! wishing you the very best, I know its incredibly hard and society just doesn't seem built to really help women through this bit!

OP, your GP should be willing to give you some medication for the nausea, despite not vomiting. Just make it clear the impact it's having. And don't be afraid to go back for different ones if they don't work!

I'm 17 weeks now, first pregnancy, and the nausea set in around 5 weeks and hasn't fully gone yet although the last week and a half it's been better (limited to the evening, and I can eat normally until about 3pm). I had weeks of utter misery, dehydration, and inability to eat much except pizza (after a while) and crisps. I did vomit but not "badly" (most frequent was only twice in once day!) and not until maybe 7/8 weeks.

The unrelenting nausea is worth treating. It has a huge impact on your ability to stay hydrated and positive.

Obviously - only if you're happy to take medication! Should have said that, but I think you'd mentioned it previously. I also thought they might not take me seriously because I hadn't actually thrown up at the point I made an appointment.

I've tried 4 different types and have settled on Xonvea - it helps take the edge off, but it's not the magic solution for me that it has been for others. But it helped me through the worst of it and I'm still taking it now.

With my first, about 10 weeks. With my second, when I gave birth! (I think it was the position & pressure on my stomach in later pregnancy as she in a weird position, but that started just as the early pregnancy sickness was finally passing)

Mulledjuice · 12/12/2025 14:53

Peaked at 10 better by 12 gone by 13.
Didnt persist with the medication because it made the tiredness worse (which stopped in the same timeframe)

Ah I’m so glad I’m not the only one! Having a 5 year old certainly does not help. Last time I was pregnant we went into lockdown so I didn’t have to go to work and had no child so think it was much easier to cope

Were you trying? I only ask as i we tried for 4 years and once we gave up its happened....a bit of a shock! My nausea has got worse, i think i need to book a doc appointment x

Sickallday · 12/12/2025 15:29

I have just booked a gp appointment and they are doing a telephone one tommorrow . I really hope something might help

Update I got prescribed some anti sickness yesterday. Cyclizine. I took one last night and I would say today’s been better but at midnight last night I got thrush! Honestly so miserable. No pharmacies would help today without me speaking to a dr. I have finally managed to speak to one who said that the cannestean pessary is safe so I’m going to try that tonight.

Sounds similar to me, got thrush a couple days after staring xonvea. 1st trim is miserable x

I vomited nearly every day, often multiple times a day, until dd was born.

The one thing that helped was the days I was able to eat a steak. If I managed that it typically came with several hours of relief. Was it because my stomach was in good enough shape to eat the steak in the first place or because I got the steak, I’m not sure. Probably a little of both.

ScaryM0nster · 14/12/2025 17:03

Grazing on snacks.

Fresh air.

The wrist bands in the right place as it turned out it made a difference when they weren’t.

Iced drinks and rocket lollies.

Lemon flavour. Cinnamon flavour.

Ginger didnt help me.

I’m now 5 or 6 days on the anti sickness and oh my goodness I’ve found some joy in life again! I’ve managed to get out of bed and do things. It feels miraculous! Now a new fear is why do I feel better and the constant fear when I wipe but day to day life ( well between 10am and 6pm ) is feeling a lot more manageable . The tiredness still sucks ! I swear I feel 9 months pregnant some days
