I ddin't buy any till ds was born as i wasn't sure what size I would ultimately be. Anyway, for 2 weeks he was permenantly attached, lol!

hedgehog1979 · 10/06/2008 10:10

I am, ohhh, 39 weeks today and am going to buy mine tomorrow with DH as we have to drive and I am not liking driving at the moment.

I think it is recommended to get them from about 35 - 36 weeks onwards

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 10:19

the NCT has very good advice on their website about where/when and how

I think I remember it was 36wks + and there were tups about how to get one that will fit properly

mummy2bsoon · 10/06/2008 16:19

here you are

Your size will continue to change when the milk comes in so I'd suggest buying one or two now, nothing too expensive, and get more (online if necessary) in baby's first few weeks.
Don't forget you'll need to wear a bra 24/7 so you may need something softer for nighttime - and my top tip is check you can lie down in it... my boobs just fell out of most when lying on my side, which means you lose your breast pads -> leak city!

missingwine · 10/06/2008 19:01

I've just bought two bras at 37 weeks. Make sure you get fitted by NCT or a reputable company who really know how to fit breastfeeding bras as although your cup size will go up, your actual bra size will shrink as your ribcage contracts after giving birth. I had a fitting at Rigby & Peller where my mahoosive udders are now a 36J I got a bra in there for £30 & also then bought a Royce bra in John Lewis for £24.

MrsTittleMouse · 10/06/2008 19:10

All good advice here - I'd also recommend Bravado bras which are very stretchy and have flexible sizing. Mine was great in the early days when my size changed on the hour every hour () and then I used it as a sleep bra.

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 19:59

MrsTittleMouse - what a great site with normal size looking woman who actually look like they've had a baby who they are actually feeding

will have to keep an eye on it though as its saying its not accepting any UK orders at the moment

anyone had any royce bras? they look quite good for the larger norked amongst us

missingwine · 10/06/2008 20:10

Dizzydixies - the Royce Radiance nursing bra was v. comfy whilst trying on & has 4 rows of hooks & eyes at back for fastening, although I haven't worn it yet. It comes in black or white and is quite pretty with a lace trim, so even with humungous boobs, you still feel girly (well, as girly as it's gonna get!). When I went for a fitting, I was advised that there should be room inside the cup to fit your fist in Will also check out Bravado - thanks Mrs Tittlemouse

MrsTittleMouse · 10/06/2008 20:12

Oh no! I think that figleaves sell some of the Bravado lines too, so that would be worth checking out.
It is a lovely site, isn't it? It was recommended to me by someone on MN, who I can't remember. Sorry, lovely MNer.

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 20:14

thanks missingwine - will give them a whirl - am going to wait a few more weeks before getting fitted and then probably ordering online

loving your name btw - almost inspired to change mine to 'missingsmirnoffice' but worried it may make me sound a wee gadgie with my unsophisticated choice of drink

MrsTittleMouse · 10/06/2008 20:14

Oh no again! No Bravado on Figleaves either. I hope that they're still selling in the UK, I need another bra for DD2 (due in October)!

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 20:20

am sure it was those I had with dd1 - will have a think where I got them

it does say you can email them for stockists

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 20:21

it was this one - active birth bra

similar but not quite that one sorry!

missingwine · 10/06/2008 20:23

NO worries dizzydixies - hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll be using the bras and I'll post to let you know how user-friendly they are! I'll also think of changing my name - I like the sound of drunkenmummy or mummylush . Nothing wrong with a Smirnoff Ice or 10! Not sure if I can face the "pump & dump" milking session though, so I may be a fairly sober mummy until weaning starts

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 20:25

liking the sound of mummylush

mummy2bsoon · 11/06/2008 20:08

thanks guys

Ladies - just found another site that appears to have Bravado bras in stock. www.expressyourselfmums.co.uk

cityangel · 15/06/2008 16:11

The midwife advised to wait until we've had the head confirmed as engaged. That way the rib cage is closer to the size it will be post birth.

NotABanana · 15/06/2008 16:12

I used to fit nursing bras and I would say wait another 2-3 weeks.

biglips · 15/06/2008 16:14

no...not till youre about 38 weeks as ya boobs may be bigger then than now
