Positive test- now what?!

I’ve just had a (3) positive test today. It was quite unexpected and I only bought the first test to try and kickstart my period as I’m 5 days late. First test was just a clear blue rapid response, which came up as positive immediately. I was honestly shocked and in disbelief, so went out and bought some different tests, including a saliva one. All came back positive (pic below). I think I’m 5 weeks 1 day based on the date of my last period.

I was diagnosed with PCOS aged 15 and told I’d have huge difficulty getting pregnant so I’m quite surprised that this has happened. We haven’t been actively preventing pregnancy, but also weren’t actively trying for the last 2 years or so with nothing happening.

I’m going to phone my GP in the morning but I’m honestly just so in shock 🙈 it doesn’t feel real and probably won’t until someone else confirms it. I’ve filled in the self referral form for the midwifery service already, but what else do I need to?

What do I need to buy? What do I need to Book? Who do I need to tell? What should I beep looking out for??

Positive test- now what?!

No smoking no alcohol, eat healthy and stay active.
It’s still very early on.

Aw congrats on your pregnancy :) First thing I’m always asked is if I’m taking vitamin d and folic acid, so start now if you aren’t already. Apart from that just as PP said, eat healthily and don’t smoke or drink (again what I’m always told).

Hahahaha.. I wrote exactly this in a diary 36 yrs ago pregnant with my first baby. 'Now what?'. Looks like you have everything covered so far.
Congratulations 🎉 🎉 🎉.

As others have said startbtaking folic acid. Eat well. Cut down on coffee. Look at the list of foods to avoid
I hate the first 2 months! You can't really tell anyone! Nothing feels that different ( depending on morning sickness) and its just waiting for the 12week scan
Congratulations!! Sounds like you have everything sorted !

Congratulations!

Kindly, don't do anything, it's still early days. You don't need to phone the GP if you've done the self referral.

Tinytotdriver · 08/12/2025 09:14

Congratulations!! Don’t need to do anything after a self referral if you’re feeling okay. As others have said, just look at the foods to avoid on the NHS website and take your vitamins. Up to you when you want to tell people 😊
