6 weeks 1 day, no fetus just yolk sack - blighted ovum?

Anyone had this happen where they have had a scan and there’s no fetus?

I have had 6 weeks scans in the past and there’s always been a fetus and pole.

Either it’s too early and can’t be seen or it’s a blighted ovum I would assume?

I have another scan in 2 weeks, the midwife said they would expect a significant change if the pregnancy is continuing.

Has this happened to anyone else and what was the outcome?

Hi OP, so sorry you’re in this position, the uncertainty is so hard.

i always thought a blighted ovum meant the sac was empty, without even a yolk sac - perhaps I’m wrong. So it could be that you’re just earlier than you thought. Is this possible, or are you pretty certain of when you ovulated?

meant to add, I have been in a similar position, but the sec was totally empty at 6w 2 days so I knew it wasn’t looking good for me.

@SoozieSheep they measured the sac today and it’s 6 weeks 1 day and I’m supposed to be 6 weeks from my last period. I think the presence of a yolk sac puts it more on the fence but google suggested a blighted ovum can be with or without a yolk sac:

A blighted ovum can sometimes have a yolk sac, but it will not have a fetal pole or embryo. The presence of a yolk sac with no embryo is a key diagnostic sign of an anembryonic pregnancy (blighted ovum). In other cases, there may be no yolk sac visible at all within the gestational sac.
