Terrified of HG

Hi all

I was pregnant 10 and 5 years ago and currently pregnant with 3rd - a very much wanted and planned baby!

I had HG with first and second pregnancies but the first was definitely worse as I was hospitalised more.

I am now coming up to 6-7 weeks pregnant and have started feeling off. I dry heaved and threw up bile this morning and felt marginally better.
It’s a feeling of “I’m feeling off” and I am completely off water and liquids but have been picking at some beige foods from the kids.

Can any ladies share exactly how their HG started? Was it a slow gradual increase or did it hit suddenly?

I’m so grateful for becoming pregnant after so long but equally terrified of this developing into HG.

Please share your experiences! Thank you

Mine started around 6 weeks. One evening, I threw up my dinner, and then I couldn't keep food or water down until about 12 weeks and lost about 15 pounds.

I'm 11 weeks pregnant with my second now and I was dreading it too. It's actually been a lot better though. I'm only throwing up between 1-3 times a day. I am a lot more tired (but that could be toddler related) and I do still have 24/7 nausea. Overall, definitely not as horrific as the first time.

Pregnancy 1. Positive test on the 18th December about 5 weeks, nausea started on the 23rd and by Christmas day I was throwing up and I was off sick from the 2nd Jan. I had hyperemesis in the first and third trimesters with intermittent sickness in the second.
Pregnancy 2. Positive test at 5 weeks and a week later I was sent home from work the first day the nausea started and it went straight to quite intense. I miscarried at 10 weeks and it took another week for the sickness to stop
Pregnancy 3. Positive test at 4 weeks started vomiting immediately by 6 weeks I couldn't work and was chained to the sofa or the toilet and miscarried are 10 weeks
Pregnancy 4. Conceived immediately after the miscarriage. I started with a little bit of nausea which made me do a test. It was positive I thought I must be 4-5 weeks as that is what it felt like. I did a week's test and got 3+ phoned the epu and they got me in for a scan and I was 8 weeks! I started on xonvea as soon as I got the positive test which took the sickness away completely. When I forgot to take it in the morning I threw up at 3 o'clock but it was one of those situations where once I was sick I felt completely fine by 11 weeks I was able to stop the xonvea and barely felt pregnant. I had a week or so at 24 weeks where the sickness returned but it was completely different to the other pregnancies.

Mine hit me like a train. I remember with my oldest I had ordered a supermarket shop full of unusual fruit and vegetables because I was thinking I should eat even more healthily than usual and it virtually all got thrown away and 20 years later I still can’t look at an Innocent smoothie or a fig!

I had HG with my first. It hit me hard at only 5 weeks and I was medicated my whole pregnancy but I still felt awful until about 28 weeks then I stopped vomiting as much but still had bad nausea. I was terrified that I'd have HG again, especially with a toddler to look after this time and very little support. This pregnancy my nausea and vomiting started later, about 8 weeks. The nausea was pretty rough in the first trimester but my vomiting never got as bad as with my son, and after first trimester it slowly got better and better until about 16 weeks when I rarely had any nausea at all 🎉

Currently on my 3rd pregnancy. The nausia was a build up but then also hit me hard. I had manageable nausia from about 4-6 weeks then one day during the 6th week I just woke up, it had worsened dramatically, i couldn't get out of bed, could barely eat anything.

I contacted pregnancy sickness support who were really helpful and now taking xonvea and ondansetron which have helped a lot. During the first trimester the medication took the edge off, I still felt incredibly sick all day but I wasn't throwing up anymore and the nausia was less intense and I could eat and drink on it.

Out of the 3 pregnancies this was the worst one before I took the medication but actually the best one since being on the medication. With my others I basically vomited every morning until I gave birth, with this one, I've not vomited since about 13 weeks.

Hello! Sorry you’re so anxious :(

i felt queasy in week 5 but nothing too bad, but as soon as I hit 6+0 HG came in full force and I was hospitalised a week later after losing 2kg in a week. Currently on my 2nd hospitalisation at 9+5.

this is my first pregnancy, but was speaking to a friend who has HG and is trying for a 2nd baby, and she said to get ahead of it and already speak to your doc about medication to take the edge off before it gets too bad? Can you speak to your doc and share your concerns and maybe already get on meds?
hope you’re ok! Xx
