I’m 7 weeks pregnant and the sickness is awful. Other than tips like eating ginger etc, what genuinely helped you? I’m struggling knowing that it could be like this for months. My first child I had zero pregnancy symptoms with the whole way through, which was incredibly lucky.

I just couldn’t read and run as soon as I saw the title to your thread. I even posted a few days ago about this because my constant all day nausea has got me down so much. It’s debilitating, isn’t it? I’m 7 weeks 2 days.

First of all, get yourself down to the GP and ask them to prescribe medication. I’m on xonvea. With my son, my pregnancy sickness was so horrendous but I didn’t reach out to the doctors until three weeks into my sickness which is why this time I knew as soon as I started feeling nauseous I’d get the tablets.

Unfortunately, no medication is a miracle care but after a week, I am noticing a difference in my nausea.

Second, a lot of people will tell you to eat ginger or drink ginger tea, but I can tell you if your sickness is severe it’s even gonna make it worse or not make a difference at all…

Third and something I didn’t even realise is sometimes sickness can be caused due to excess stomach acid which can be common in pregnancy. I found that Gaviscon helped me. I’m now on omeprazole and today is the first day that I’ve eaten properly.

If you are really struggling, reach out to pregnancy sickness support charity they are currently looking after me and helping me get through this. They were the ones that advised me to try omeprazole

Little tricks that have been working are eating crackers before I get out of bed in the morning with some juice. Try to eat little and often if you can… I know sometimes you can’t. I find that after I eat, I do feel better. If I go say a couple of hours without eating the Nausea creeps back so bad.

I had this. You must not let yourself get too hungry. The hungrier you are, the worse the nausea, until you actually throw up, and then you can't eat because you're vomiting, but you're vomiting because you're hungry. It's a vicious circle. Even sipping iced water will help. Just keep something in your stomach.

Poor you x

With my son I was very sick, all day nausea and worse in the evenings when I would almost always be sick. It started at 7 weeks and was manageable by 30 weeks.

As a previous poster said, excess stomach acid can often make it all worse.

Omeprazole for stomach acid in the morning, and Gaviscon after dinner in the evening helped. Chewing on Rennie was also good. I upped the omeprazole to twice a day later in my pregnancy which was great to have that option.

Try some anti sickness medication, I went through a few which all seemed to work better at different stages. I found promethazine the best all rounder as it made me sleepy enough in the evening to sleep through the night without being sick. Ondansetron after 12 weeks when the risk of birth defects drops, was the only one which got rid of the nausea (rest only dented it). Cyclizine you can take a few times in the day so was best when I was being sick a lot. There will.be one which works for you.

Hunger and dehydration make it all worse so try to eat little and often and sip water. Avoid foods which increase stomach acid like citrus fruits and caffeine.

Also if I got too tired I felt worse. If you can factor in a short nap it might help.

I hope you find something that works for you, sending positive vibes x

I had acupuncture from a midwife and then wore seasickness bands, it didn’t stop the nausea and sickness but made it manageable.

@Lollipoprainbows003so sorry you’re going through it too. It really is so hard. I haven’t been to the GP yet as I’m worried they’ll tell me there’s not much they can do to help, but your comment has pushed me to make an appointment.
agree that ginger doesn’t make it any better, I’m not a big fan of ginger so the smell just makes me feel worse! I had no idea about stomach acid making it worse either, super helpful thank you!
really hope we both find some relief soon! Sending love xx

@Andregroupdefinitely agree with this, I don’t want to eat anything because everything makes me feel sick but if I don’t it just makes the nausea worse. What a nightmare!

@SKLM gosh up until 30 weeks, bless you. That must have been really hard! Thank you for all the info on sickness medication as I currently haven’t a clue!
thankfully I’m completely off coffee at the moment. Will get to my GP asap. Thanks so much xx

I'm with you, it's so debilitating. Mine doesn't start until I eat, but if I don't eat I will end up retching rather than just feeling nauseous. Fresh air seems to help so I'm feeling grateful it's winter. Ice water as well. Basically cold things! I tried eating little and often yesterday rather than a late breakfast and early dinner and was so bloated and full it was mega uncomfortable. It's a glamorous time huh!!! Thanks for those who have posted tips. Fingers crossed you find something that works op.

I found it took a bit of effort to retrain my brain on this. Normally if you feel nauseous then staying away from food is a good idea.

With morning sickness it’s the opposite, you have to make sure you eat to help.

I found digestive biscuits and Jacob’s cream crackers were helpful. At work I kept mints in my pockets to get through meetings.

I found getting up earlier so that I could get ready in stages and not rush was also helpful.

I was sick multiple times a day for my whole pregnancy, it didn’t really get easier but I did get used to it.

Allsigns · 02/12/2025 21:56

Randomly today I had a diet pepsi and have been nausea free ever since. Feels like a blooming miracle after over a month feeling rotten the whole time I'm awake.

The only thing that helped me was him evacuating the premises and thank god he did 5 weeks early 🤣🤣 I had hyperemsis and every day was a battle. Although it got slightly better by about 25 weeks I still was awful
