Hi. I’m 27 weeks pregnant and for the last 3 weeks I’ve been suffering with really bad back pains. It feels like sciatica to me.
when I went to the doctor she said there’s not much I can do and to avoid sitting for long periods but I have a desk job so it’s difficult not to. I am in agony at work and don’t know how to get through the next 9 weeks at work.
any advice?

I get it badly too, and PGP. Nothing works for me I’m afraid just had to rough it out. I’m 37+2 now, some days are better than others.
Solidarity!

You need to find a ledge or desk or shelf you can put your lap top on and stand as you type. An ironing board will do if you are working from home

This is the other problem im not able to work from home as I’m training my replacement 🙈

I suffered awful sciatica when I was first pregnant. GP referred me to physio who provided me with exercises and a belt. As pregnancy developed, the pain one day just stopped (though sciatic nerve has not been same sinxe)

I found sitting on gym ball really helped my sciatica, probably not possible at work but might give you relief in the evenings. I was also advised to make sure my hips were higher than my bum when sitting, so check your work chair. Sinking down into lower chairs and couches really aggravated mine. Like others have said mine usually went away as pregnancy progressed, middle of the 2nd trimester is the worst for me, so don't be disheartened that you're going to be in pain til 40 wks it can clear up as baby develops and shifts.

@AmberBeaker thank you x

@MrsKJones hopefully it will just go away for me too. Another 13 weeks of this seems like a long road ahead, x

I had the same. Told my manager and she let me have extra breaks to walk around. Make sure you have a proper chair and back support. A hot water bottle on the area also really helps. If you can, try and do some pregnancy safe yoga - it was a saviour for me!

@BristolHelp thanks I will give it a go x

i had horrific sciatica from 12-17 weeks pregnant. Literally almost in a day it just disappeared. I was prescribed codeine but it didn’t help at all, physio etc. the only thing that helped was an ice pack on my back literally all day (regularly swapping to obviously keep it cold). I sat at a desk a lot so I found this the only help x
I really hope it goes for you soon, I spent so many evenings crying in pain x
