Hello!

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and keep getting a blocked left ear (feels like I've been flying). Anyone else get this? I have low blood pressure (86/44 last reading) and wonder if this is linked, although I don't really get dizzy.. x

I have had this LOADS! But I don't have low blood pressure, so no idea if the two are linked.

Doc gave me some almond oil which helps sporadically. I had been using Otex which I thought was great until he told me it was irritating my inner ear and making the whole thing worse.

Love to know if this is a common thing!

Hey BorgLady... looks like it's just us! I'll try the almond oil.

i am going to be nine weeks tomorrow and have had something really weird with my left ear fro about four weeks - i can hear my pulse in it, iykwim, like it's a bit blocked... i was thinking this was some sort of hayfever thing, though i don't usually suffer from hayfever, but maybe i should add it to the sickness and dizziness, then....

I get this all the time - any amount of general snottiness can cause it. I get all stuffed up on one side more than the other and any blockage or inflammation in the sinus affects the pressure in the inner ear causing dizziness and feeling sick. Its better if its in both ears as it sort of balances itself out. I am 32 weeks as well and have found it worse during pregnancy as I am more stuffed up and you can't take decongestants or things like that you can't take any medication. For me, hayfever makes it really bad and again no medication when pregnant. If it is sinus related you can get simple saline washes which are meant to help keep your sinus's from getting more inflamed.I hope it goes away because I know how miserable it can be.

I've had 'funny' ears pretty much from the beginning of my pregnancy-I probably noticed it before I even did the test, and it took me a while to make the link. It feels like my ears pop and then my hearing seems different (eg my own voice will sound different to me if that makes sense) and my breath sounds seem louder. It affects either ear, for several hours a day, and then will sudden;y go again. A little frustrating, but it doesn't hurt and I'm assuming it will go away once the baby pops out!

I have bad ears all the time, not just in pregnancy! I have to be careful not to get water in my ears or I get an infection, and I have wax build up. This is what I know about wax (lovely) :

  • Wax can build up during pg. Putting some warmed olive oil (a few drops) in the ear can shift it. Best done overnight.

*Never never use a cotton bud because if the wax is getting hard then it can poke it and cause a sort of internal scratch/bruise and infect.

  • I get my ears hoovered by a specialist, but I have to ask my GP for it.

*Mullein oil is apparently good for ear aches. Never tried it (perforated eardrums). But here it says it's good for stretch marks too!!

I'd go and get a GP to have a look, because if it is wax it's totally annoying, even though there's no pain it can really get you down. Does for me, anyway!
