Headaches

I am 13 weeks pregnant and have had a headache nearly everyday for the last couple of weeks.

I have been having paracetamol nearly everyday but they don't seem to help.

The doctor said he didn't think there was anything else I could have and to try and nap and take more paracetamol after 6 hours. I don't like having lots of paracetamol when I'm not pregnant. Also with a 15 month old DS having a nap isn't possible all the time.

Do you know of anything else I can take or should I go back and ask to see another GP?

TIA

Are you eating and drinking enough. Could it be dehydration, especially as it has been warmer in recent weeks?

If you are happy that you have then go back to see another GP and make sure your BP is checked.

Hope you are ok,

I don't know if I have been drinking enough. I am positive I am eating enough(probably too much)

Could it be anemia(sp) as I am also very tired?

Unlikely to be caused by anaemia - it's commonly caused by the increase in blood flow - basically, you double your blood volume which means there is more pressure to pump the stuff round your body and head and this can lead to headaches if you are prone to them anyway. I got a lot of headaches in the first trimester.

I sniff olbas oil - that clears the headache instantly though I've never been able to fathom why because they don't seem to be sinus headaches.

kayzisexpecting · 08/06/2008 18:10

I am going to try and drink more water or juice and no more fizzy drinks.

I'm going to make another appointment with the doctor and see what they say too.

Fed up with having them now.

My constant headaches and exhaustion were caused by anaemia. So, iron tablets have made an enormous different. Also I agree with the other posters - drink water and more water and more water... it helps so much more than one might think!

whomovedmychocolate · 08/06/2008 18:36

Kayz - are you drinking lots of coke by chance? Or diet fizzy drinks - they can cause headaches - the coke through the caffeine, the asparteme in diet drinks just because it's a nasty old chemical.

star6 · 08/06/2008 18:38

good point whomoved...
and fizzy drinks in general tend to dehydrate rather than hydrate your body.

I'll try some Olbas Oil too.

I'm not drinking coke. I've been craving lucozade which has a little caffeine in or just drinking Lemonade.

But I've been told all fizzy drinks dehydrate so thats why I want to cut them out.

I had huge problems with migraines and headaches up until end of second trimester. My gp prescribed co-codamol which helped really well.

babylove123 · 08/06/2008 21:32

Hi,

I have the same problem! Had it around weeks 6 - 9 but i think that was dehydration but now they're back at 16 weeks! They're awful arent they? Keep plenty of fluids up and where possible, keep the lights off, dark rooms can really help with it.

Good luck.

God, I remember the headaches when pg with dd2. Paracetamol didn't touch them.

What about 4head - that stuff you roll on your forehead? I am sure I used that when pg and it was better than paracetamol.

kayzisexpecting · 08/06/2008 21:45

I hadn't thought about that 4head stuff. I might buy some of that.

Hi,

I had this for the whole of my 4th month. I had a very sympathetic GP but basically there was nothing he could do.

In the end i went to a homeopath, alternative therapy is so not my thing but i was beyond caring at this point. Anyway, she gave me a remedy and it went overnight, it came back again a week later, took the remedy again and then gone permanatly.

A lot of people rubbish homeopathy, i have no paticular feelings on it, but if it works it works, even if it is only a placebo effect.

worth a shot i reckon, good luck

kayzisexpecting · 09/06/2008 08:38

I might have to try that stickybean.
