Looking for testimonials: fetal ventriculomegaly and parieto-occipital meningocele

Hello everyone,
Our baby is now entering the 7th month of pregnancy, and a fetal MRI has shown the following findings:
Bilateral ventriculomegaly: 14 mm
Parieto-occipital meningocele
Everything else is normal: 4th ventricle, cerebellum, spinal cord, organs, limbs, and amniotic fluid.
The radiologist recommends a follow-up at the end of the pregnancy, and our doctor reassured us by saying that it was not serious, that it could be managed after birth, and that the outlook is generally good.
But despite this, we are worried and would like to hear testimonies from parents who have experienced similar situations, simply to better understand what to expect and to find some reassurance.
❓ We would like to know:

  • How did things go for your baby?
  • Was there any progression during the pregnancy?
  • Did the cyst decrease or disappear?
  • How was the care managed after birth?
  • How did the child develop afterward?
Thank you in advance to those who agree to share their experience. It would help us a lot in this difficult moment.

During my first pregnancy with my son it was picked up on his 20 anomaly scan that he had ventriculomegaly. We had to have an MRI scan and further blood tests which didn't show any further abnormalities. We were cared for under the fetal medicine consultant and had regular check ups. By the time I had got to term the ventriculomegaly had resolved. He had no problems when he was born and he is now 4 years old with absolutely no issues relating to it and is happy and healthy and (imo) very bright!

I hope this is reassuring, you might find that the problem has resolved by the time you give birth. I think if you have concerns then speak directly with your fetal medicine consultant as they will be best placed to advise you. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy!
