Would NCT classes be worth it in my situ?

I’m planning on having an ELCS and heard that NCT classes are very heavily focussed on vaginal birth plans. I’ve just booked for in person sessions (looks like 3 of them). What I’m more keen to learn is changing a nappy, breastfeeding, how to hold etc, winding, (I probably sound useless I but I really don’t think I’ve held a baby since I was 10 supervised by my mother!)

The social side is appealing to me, meeting couples locally and I’ve heard women that are still friends with their NCT people today.

On the other hand - husband is currently in the interview process for two jobs - one in England but not locally but we would likely move before baby due and the other in the states (but that would be a longer time maybe up to 6 months after baby born) so if the latter it will still be nice to have friends locally for the first few months.

of course both of these options might not work out and then we will be remaining in the local area anyway which would mean attending NCT classes a bonus

NB I note they have a 14 day cancellation fee after booking but wanted to just book in case the spot went as it said last chance to book. I figured it’s probably best to have a place and if I decide to cancel in the next few days I can do so.

For me it was definitely worth it for the social side. The information they gave wasn’t particularly useful but I enjoyed the sessions, especially post birth when it means a lot to see friendly faces. Most of my local friends were working so it was great to meet people in the same boat.

13 years on, I am good friends with 2 out of my NCT group of 6. We did all meet as group during maternity leave and the support was good - but to have 2 proper friends out of it is brilliant.

I knew when I joined up to NCT that I was having a ELCS (due to a badly broken pelvis from a previous car accident) . I still found it useful and made some great friends (still in touch with 2 16 years on). The leader also did find some info around making the ELCS personal to me. DS was a late Nov baby and I found it invaluable for meet ups and a ready made set of friends willing to meet up.

The very first thing my NCT teacher said was “this is the National Childbirth Trust, not the Natural childbirth trust” and proceeded to cover everything, including after the birth. There was a woman expecting twins who knew she was likely to have a CS (and indeed did).
You’ll have to accept they’ll be a lot about vaginal births but that’s OK.
