I’m 32 weeks pregnant and having 2 previous big babies I always knew there was a chance this one would be big too.
well he measuring on the 99th centile which I was fine. However I have polyhydrominos as well and he’s breech. I have asked from the start of him measuring big if I could be induced before he was to big which is what happened when I had my son, as my first birth with a 9lb 13oz baby was horrific. They agreed with that. Now things are a bit different with this baby being breech I know he can turn but I’m terrified of all the added extra things now. If anyone has any experience with this please tell me what happened?
thank you!

Do you know what breech position baby is in currently? If they are (and stay) in a footling breech position, you’ll most likely be advised to have a c-section. They will scan the baby ahead of the section and if they have turned, you’ll have the choice of whether to proceed with the section or deliver naturally - possible via an induction in your case. I opted for a planned section due to baby being breech (though not a big baby) but went into labour a week before my planned date so ended up with an emergency section. It was all fine and baby arrived safe and sound.

Thank you very much for your reply.
He is in total breech from what I’m aware he’s been in the position for the past 4 weeks. Hopefully he will turn. Can I ask when you were offered your c section?
im very nervous with it all. I think as its a waiting game im trying to find out as much information as I can

The waiting is so hard as you have no idea what might happen! I actually think I was offered my section quite late, around 37 weeks (although it had been mentioned as an option before but I think we all assumed the baby would turn) - I’d just had a presentation scan and baby was still breech but I declined an ECV. I had my consultation and signed the paperwork for a c-section at 37+5 and my planned c-section date would have been at 39 weeks. In your position, I’d personally be opting for a section - they may well encourage this with a total breech anyway, but you could always change if baby does turn last minute. I think that because I’d had in mind that I might have a planned c-section, it wasn’t really a big deal when it happened.

Thank you for telling me about your experience. Yes I think it’s to risky not opting for a c section.
how was your recovery? I know you aren’t allowed to drive for 6 weeks but that’s all I know or heard

I would personally opt for a elective c section op, your more than within your rights to ask for it.

I personally found the recovery to be ok - the worst part for me was the not driving but I made sure I stayed quite mobile, getting out for walks etc. I had a 2 year old at the time so I couldn’t lift them and had to make changes to meal times and nap times because of not being able to get them into the high chair or the cot but it wasn’t a problem. The pain wasn’t horrendous - I continued with pain killers for a few days after leaving the hospital but it was never unbearable, more just uncomfortable at times. Obviously you’re left with a scar - mine doesn’t particularly bother me although my stomach was more or less flat after DC1 and due to (I presume) scar tissue, I don’t think it will ever be perfectly flat again - it will always stick out a bit above my scar.
