Hey Mama's,

First time posting on here, I've spent all night and now today very anxiously reading other mums posts on here trying to find the answers but thought it's about time I just did my own.

So I tested positive this week Monday 10th November which would have made me 4 weeks & 1 day pregnant (based on my period being due Sunday 9th). However yesterday (Wednesday) morning when I wiped I had some blood, it was red like period blood so I did panic about it not being implantation bleeding which I know is usually light pink or brown. I have 2 children already and with my second I had implantation bleeding before I tested positive and it was nothing like this.

Anyway I put a panty liner on and then all day had nothing until the evening when suddenly there was quite a few drops of red blood on it. Which then later in the evening started to develop more, so I put in a normal sanitary pad. Went to bed very upset, after spending all evening exhausted from googling it, crying lots, and accepting I must be having a miscarriage and barely slept in the night due to waking up and noticing blood still continuing.

Woke up today Thursday and I am now just having what I would class as my normal period, changing pads regularly. I haven't put a tampon in which is what I would usually wear in the day (pads at night) as I've read if you are pregnant this is bad, although I know that is ridiculous as there can just be no way I am pregnant still, but for now just in case.

I have just done another test this morning and it is still positive, also I know if I am miscarrying this would still be positive as read a lot online about how it takes some time to get the negative after loss. So not sure why I did it tbh, as just made me more upset :(

I haven't had any cramping, and I haven't had any blood clots. The flow is just exactly like my normal period. If I hadn't tested positive on Monday I would of just assumed my period had turned up, that's how normal it is.

Just want some advice if anyone else has had this and thinks it is 100% a miscarriage? I've read so much about miscarriages before and always thought along with the blood, there was always cramping and blood clots, that's why I'm surprised this is what it's like, of course that could come later but for now it hasn't. I also read about a chemical pregnancy which is very common at 4 weeks pregnant and I think this might sound more like I'm having.

I know it's probably such a silly question to ask if I am having a miscarriage or chemical pregnancy, as I would say it is very certain, I just couldn't believe I would have this much blood and still be pregnant, however any advice from anyone is greatly appreciated :)

TIA
xxx

Oh, I'm sorry you're going through this. Yes, this sounds like a chemical pregnancy and you are miscarrying. As you say, years ago when tests weren't as sensitive women wouldn't even have known that they were pregnant, but now we do and it's emotional.

Thank you so much for your reply and kind words. Oh I know and to think if I had left it for a couple days to test I wouldn't of known I was pregnant which would have been so much better :(

I'm slowly starting to come to terms with it now, but still so confusing not having any cramping or clots, which I mean is great as having just like a normal period is better of course!

Now I'm also confused with when I would ovulate next, and even though this is exactly like a period do I get another period again before I ovulate? Might seem soon but I want to try again as soon as possible and I had tracked all my ovulation and cycle dates perfectly and now I feel as if that has been messed up.

Sorry you're going through this OP. Something very similar happened to me with my third pregnancy. Tested positive around my period due date and about a week later I started bleeding which continued just like a normal period. I continued to test positive for a few days, but it was sadly an early miscarriage. I guess the only thing you can do is test again in a few days and see how it's looking.

Thank you so much for your reply and sharing your experience. Sounds pretty much the same as you, funnily enough this would have been my third pregnancy too.

Did you experience any cramps or clots or was it just like a normal period?
Do you also know if it was as classed as a period or did you get another period not long after? It certainly seems like it to me and not what I expected from a miscarriage.

I’m so sorry to read this. Early miscarriages are so cruel for the grain of hope they give you. Monitor what’s happening with the bleeding and retest in a week, just to ensure that HCG has gone down as you’d expect. Any pain do get yourself checked out by EPU to make sure it wasn’t ectopic.

And yes, if it does turn out to be a MC, treat the first day of the bleed as CD1. I had a MC at about 6 weeks earlier this year. I never managed to pinpoint when ovulation was the following cycle (despite using BBT and OPKs) but my period turned up again 30 days later. Miraculously, I managed to conceive again 2 cycles after that and am now 29 weeks! Good luck.

Sorry to hear but this is exactly what I had with my chemical pregnancy. It’s so early on it’s really just a delayed period in terms of output.

Very normal for it to just be like a normal period without clots at this stage. It's called a chemical because although you can see the elevated hormones there isn't anything physical yet to see on a scan, so it's just based on hormones levels as the bundle of cells is too small. X

It does unfortunately sound like it is not going to take. I had this and it was like a heavy period. The test looked positive but a few days later at the hospital it wasn't anymore.

I hope you have success with another pregnancy soon. X

I think it was quite heavy but nothing out of the ordinary in terms of cramping or clots I don't think. As PP said you count the first day of the bleed as CD1. I think my next period came about 30 days later. I've heard of people getting pregnant straight after you no reason you couldn't try again when you're ready.

After this loss I went on to have my DC2 and I'm now pregnant again with DC3 so it shouldn't be the end of the road, but I know how rough it can be.

Aww ok thank you for the info, so far I'm on day 3 and is still just like a normal period, haven't had any cramping or clots. I definitely have lost some pregnancy symptoms now.

That's good to know it didn't take too long for you. I think next month I'm going to test much later like over a week late, as if it happens again I just wouldn't know if it's like a normal period and I would much rather be in the unknown about it.

Thank you for your kind words and advice. It's been really tough but I'm starting to come to terms with it. I think for next time I'll just wait and test very late, as if I had of left it just a couple of days later I wouldn't have even known and would of preferred just thinking i didn't get pregnant this time. I never knew anything about a chemical pregnancy until now, so all very new to me.

Thank you for your kind worlds and sorry to hear you went through the same thing too. I hadn't even heard of a chemical pregnancy until now, it is really strange as is just like a normal period so yes delayed period makes sense. I had only ever heard about miscarriages I'm aware can be a lot worse, so I'm very grateful not to be going through that of course. Still upsetting though but I'll get through it

Thank you. My pleasure. Stay positive. Some things just weren't meant to be. I know that's not much consolation right now but you've every chance of having a full term pregnancy in the near future x
