Pregnant- can I eat leftover gammon/ chicken at Xmas

Sorry all, this is the most random question. Found out I'm pregnant today, after 1 x failed IVF and then almost 3 years of trying, so I'm excited and have lots of random questions in my head.

At Christmas, I normally cook a roast chicken, and a big gammon- and then me and my partner enjoy the "Cold cuts" (e.g the leftover roast meats), over the following few days.

It that safe for me to eat if pregnant? Because I've seen things about cold cuts about not being safe, but then it goes on about deli meats and stuff, and that's not what this is- its leftover roast meats.

Your advice would be fab, thank you very much xx

Of course. You are maybe confused because deli meats are on the no list in America. We have much better food safety over here. You can also eat sushi as its pretty much always from frozen fish in the UK and our eggs are super safe so you can still enjoy those even uncooked.

Maybe get Emily oysters book that talks about all these things pregnant women aren't supposed to do and looks at the reasons why. Most of them are crap.

The only thing I'd definitely avoid is pate, dodgy looking buffet food, raw shellfish, liver and raw milk cheese.

Never heard anything about cold cuts not being safe to eat. As long as it’s stored properly then you’ll be fine! Anyway best get some practice in at eating cold food, as once baby is here enjoying the luxury of eating a hot meal will be rare 😂

Congratulations on you pregnancy!

Yes you can. 🤤

It's cured meats you need to be mindful of - prosciutto, chorizo, salami etc.

This would be fine, it's cured (so not cooked) meats you're meant to avoid though tbh I haven't been. Cold turkey and ham is fine, if you'd rather you can also reheat them until piping hot (only once, don't reheat the same portion twice)

Yes. Just follow normal food hygiene rules so store correctly, don't leave out for more than 90 mins and eat Turkey within 3 days, gammon within 4 and don't refeat more than once.
